Introduction of functional groups on polyethylene surfaces by a carbon dioxide plasma treatment [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Poly(ethylene) (PE) films were treated with a carbon dioxide (CO2) plasma to study the formation of oxygen-containing functional groups at the surface. Modified and nonmodified films were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and water ...

Dielectric Barrier Discharge Electrothermal Heating and Additive Manufacturing of Thermoset Parts

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
3D printing of thermosets is difficult due to the low yield stress of most uncured resins. However, by locally heating resin using a non‐equilibrium plasma, layers can be partially cured and printing enabled. Plasma application to a liquid epoxy/carbon nanotube composite is observed to cause rapid surface heating and oxidation of the cured layers ...

Reactive precursor particles as synthetic platform for the generation of functional nanoparticles, nanogels, and microgels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Precise control of the chemical functionality of polymer nanoparticles is a key requirement in tailoring their (dynamic) colloidal properties toward advanced applications.

Dual‐Wavelength Vat Photopolymerization With Dissolvable, Recyclable Support Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Selective solubility vat photopolymerization (SSVP) uses a single resin to produce dissolvable thermoplastics and insoluble thermosets in a single 3D print. Wavelength‐selective curing and thermal post‐processing provide 3D spatial control over dissolution kinetics, enabling dissolvable support structures and programmable dissolution profiles.

Chemo-Enzymatic Synthesis of Chiral Epoxides Ethyl and Methyl (S)-3-(Oxiran-2-yl)propanoates from Renewable Levoglucosenone: An Access to Enantiopure (S)-Dairy Lactone

open access: yesMolecules, 2016
Chiral epoxides—such as ethyl and methyl (S)-3-(oxiran-2-yl)propanoates ((S)-1a/1b)—are valuable precursors in many chemical syntheses. Until recently, these compounds were synthesized from glutamic acid in four steps (deamination, reduction, tosylation ...

Total synthesis of aurofusarin: studies on the atropisomeric stability of bis-naphthoquinones [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
An efficient annulation involving pyrone addition to a quinone and Dieckmann condensation was developed for rapid assembly of a γ-naphthopyrone monomeric precursor to the bis-naphthoquinone natural product aurofusarin.

Dearomative, Intramolecular Bromoetherification of Carbohydrate‐derived Glycosyl Furans: Access to Enantiopure 6‐Bromo‐Furo[3,2‐b]furans

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, EarlyView.
Abstract Glycosyl furans represent versatile chiral platform molecules that can be readily accessed via the Garcia Gonzalez reaction. Herein, we report a dearomative, intramolecular bromoetherification of carbohydrate‐derived glycosyl furans to generate enantiopure 6‐bromo‐furo[3,2‐b]furans in up to 69% yield. The method employs N‐Br aromatic amides as

Lignin modification by epoxidation

open access: yesBioResources, 2008
The chemical modification of lignin through hydroxymethylation and epoxidation is a way to develop new application fields and improvement of lignin performances. In this paper the influence of reaction conditions was studied using different samples of unmodified and modified lignins from annual plants (Wheat straw and Sarkanda grass).

C–H Homocoupling of Arenes via Pd/S,O‐Ligand Catalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, EarlyView.
An efficient C‐H homocoupling of arenes via Pd/S,O‐ligand catalytic system is reported. This method can be applied to a series of arenes using O2 as oxidant under room temperature and is also applicable for late‐stage homocoupling of pharmaceutical derivatives.
