Enzymatic chemistry of cyclopropane, epoxide, and aziridine biosynthesis.

open access: yesChemical Reviews, 2012
Cyclopropane, epoxide, and aziridine groups are three-membered ring structural elements found in a wide variety of natural products, some of which are depicted in Figure 1.1 The antibiotic and antitumor properties of many of these compounds, including ...

Depth‐Customizable 3D Electrode Array for Recording Functional Connectivity in the Brain

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, a depth‐adjustable, flexible 3D multi‐shank electrode array that produces precise neural recordings at various brain depths is developed. Integrating 2D flexible electrode arrays with a modular supporting board allowed the insertion depth to be easily adjusted without re‐fabrication.

Identification of Ti(salen) Complexes for Efficient Catalysis in Single‐Electron Steps by Cyclic Voltammetry

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Catalyst screening without catalysis. By combining cyclic voltammetry and DFT calculations we were able to identify a highly active catalyst for the radical arylation of epoxides without performing any reactions. The prevention of chloride binding that leads to catalyst inhibition was established as the key structural feature.

Recent progress in the synthesis of six-membered aminocyclitols (2008-2017) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Aminocyclitols are of interest as glucosidase inhibitors, as probes for the study of pseudoglycosyltransferases, and as potential therapeutics for the treatment of Gaucher’s disease.

Diglycerides of Natural Phenols and Organic Acids for Enhanced Biological Activities

open access: yesAsian Journal of Organic Chemistry, EarlyView.
Diglycerides of natural organic acids and phenols were synthesized regio‐selectively. Diglycerides are structurally similar to cell membranes and are expected to exhibit cell affinity and permeability. The flexible glycerol linkers allow the diglycerides to exhibit not only the physiological activities of each constituent organic acid but also the ...

Enantioconvergent Cobalt‐Catalyzed Hydroalkylation for the Construction of Fluoro, Chloro, and Trifluoromethyl Stereogenic Centers

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Cobalt‐hydride catalyzed enantioconvergent hydroalkylation with allenes and alkenes is achieved with high chemo‐, regio‐, and enantioselectivity. This method allows the streamlined synthesis of enantiomerically enriched C(sp3)–fluorine, –chlorine, and –trifluoromethyl stereocenters.

Development of a Novel Epoxide-Containing Trimethylenemethane Precursor for Palladium-Catalyzed Cycloadditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Pd(0)-catalyzed trimethylenemethane (TMM) cycloaddition reactions have been used extensively to generate disubstituted 5-membered rings with high levels of regioselectivity, chemoselectivity, and stereoselectivity.

Synthesis of Crosslinked Biopolyesters Catalyzed by Natural Amino Acids

open access: yesAsian Journal of Organic Chemistry, EarlyView.
Highly crosslinked bio‐polyesters were synthesized via the ROCOP reaction between epoxidized sunflower oil and biobased cyclic anhydrides. The resulting materials were comprehensively characterized by FT‐IR, TGA, and DSC. A cross‐linked network in the bio‐based polymers has been confirmed by dynamic mechanical analysis.

Syntheses of Chiral 2-Oxazolines from Isosorbide Epoxide Derivative

open access: yesMolbank
Two chiral monooxazolines were synthesized from a secondary amino alcohol, as a key intermediate, isolated in four steps from an isosorbide-derived epoxide.
