Biocatalytic resolution of 2-methyl-2-(aryl)alkyloxiranes using novel bacterial epoxide hydrolases
Tetrahedron: Asymmetry, 1997Abstract Biocatalytic resolution of alkyl- and (arylalkyl)-oxiranes was accomplished by employing the epoxide hydrolase activity of lyophilized whole cells of seven bacterial strains belonging to the genera Rhodococcus, Mycobacterium and Nocardia .

Epoxide hydrolase immunodeterminants (EH-immunodeterminants), as measured by a highly sensitive and specific enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), were detected in the sera of rats bearing hyperplastic liver nodules induced by feeding 2-acetylaminofluorene (2-AAF), while they were low or absent (less than 0.05 microgram/ml) in the sera of rats fed

Brief exposure of rats to hepatocarcinogenic agents causes a rapid elevation in hepatic microsomal epoxide hydrolase (EH) activity. Previous studies have demonstrated that animals which are resistant to the hepatocarcinogenic effects of 2-acetylaminofluorene (AAF) are also resistant to EH induction by this compound.

Polymorphisms in the PTK2B-CLU locus have been associated with various neurodegenerative disorders including pseudoexfoliation glaucoma, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Many of these genomic variants are within enhancer elements and modulate genes associated with the disease pathogenesis.

Epoxide hydrolases (EHs) are a group of ubiquitous enzymes that catalyze hydrolysis of chemically reactive epoxides to yield corresponding dihydrodiols. Despite extensive studies on EHs from different clades, generic rules governing their substrate specificity determinants have remained elusive.

The insulin resistance found in diabetes is influenced by vascular tone and local blood flow. Endothelial-derived hyperpolarizing factor (EDHF) functions as a potent vasodilator to regulate vascular tone, and its production is regulated by soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH).

Monensin biodegradation pathway and role of epoxide hydrolase in Stenotrophomonas maltophilia DM‐2
Journal of Chemical Technology & Biotechnology, 2020AbstractBACKGROUNDMonensin is widely used in livestock and poultry production to promote animal growth and control coccidiosis. Most monensin is excreted as unchanged parent compounds via feces. However, monensin is very stable and difficult to degrade in the environment, and is potentially risky for the health of wildlife and humans.

2',3'-Allylic epoxide derivatives of allylbenzene and its analogs estragole, eugenol, and safrole were synthesized, and their enzymatic conversion to dihydrodiols by cytosolic and microsomal epoxide hydrolases was examined. All four epoxides were good substrates for both epoxide hydrolases, with Michaelis constants in the low micromolar range.
