EPSPs in rat neocortical neurons in vitro. II. Involvement of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors in the generation of EPSPs [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
1. Intracellular recordings were obtained from neurons in layer II/III of rat frontal cortex. Single-electrode current- and voltage-clamp techniques were employed to compare the sensitivity of excitatory postsynaptic potentials (EPSPs) and ...

Growth and Reproduction of Glyphosate-Resistant and Susceptible Populations of Kochia scoparia.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Evolution of glyphosate-resistant kochia is a threat to no-till wheat-fallow and glyphosate-resistant (GR) cropping systems of the US Great Plains. The EPSPS (5-enol-pyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase) gene amplification confers glyphosate resistance ...

Host‐Induced Silencing of Rhizoctonia Solani 5‐Enolpyruvylshikimate‐3‐Phosphate Synthase Impairs Its Virulence in Rice

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Sheath blight disease of rice caused by the fungal pathogen R. solani AG1‐IA remains a big threat to rice production worldwide. A limited genetic variation in rice for tolerance to this pathogen and little success in understanding how it defeats host defence are major reasons behind it.

Cortical cells should fire regularly, but do not [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
When a typical nerve cell is injected with enough current, it fires a regular stream of action potentials. But cortical cells in vivo usually fire irregularly, reflecting synaptic input from presynaptic cells as well as intrinsic biophysical properties ...

Electrical advantages of dendritic spines.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Many neurons receive excitatory glutamatergic input almost exclusively onto dendritic spines. In the absence of spines, the amplitudes and kinetics of excitatory postsynaptic potentials (EPSPs) at the site of synaptic input are highly variable and depend

Dendritic coincidence detection of EPSPs and action potentials

open access: yesNature Neuroscience, 2001
We describe a mechanism for coincidence detection mediated by the interaction between backpropagating action potentials and EPSPs in neocortical pyramidal neurons. At distal dendritic locations, appropriately timed EPSPs or oscillations could increase the amplitude of backpropagating action potentials by three- to fourfold.

Multi‐Omics Insights Into Anthraquinone Biosynthesis in Rheum tanguticum

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rheum tanguticum is renowned for its medicinal properties, including purgative, anti‐inflammatory and hepatoprotective effects, primarily attributed to anthraquinones (AQs). However, the molecular mechanisms of AQs biosynthesis have largely been hindered by insufficient genomic resources and functional genomics investigations.

Axon and dendrite geography predict the specificity of synaptic connections in a functioning spinal cord network [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Background: How specific are the synaptic connections formed as neuronal networks develop and can simple rules account for the formation of functioning circuits?

The inhibition of evoked excitatory postsynaptic potentials produced by ammonium chloride in rat hippocampal CA1 neurons

open access: yesHeliyon, 2020
The depression of evoked fast excitatory postsynaptic potentials (EPSPs) following superfusion with various concentrations (3 μM-5 mM) of ammonium chloride (NH4Cl) were investigated in rat hippocampal CA1 neurons.

Engineering a Gibberellin‐Switchable Dual‐Use Line Based on Ent‐Kaurene Oxidase Gene ZmKO1 Enables Two‐Line Hybrid Seed Production in Maize

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Male‐sterile systems are pivotal for maize hybrid seed production, yet existing systems are constrained by significant limitations. Here, we identified a novel single‐gene‐controlled recessive genic male sterility (GMS) mutant, defective in filament elongation 1 (def1), which exhibits non‐elongated filaments, unopened glumes, and non‐exserted ...
