A Nano‐Interception Strategy for Chronic Heart Failure: Prussian Blue Nanoparticles Disrupt Fibroblast‐Immune Communication via CCL2 Sequestration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A nano‐interception strategy disrupts pathogenic fibroblast–macrophage crosstalk in chronic heart failure. Scalable Prussian blue nanoparticles selectively sequester CCL2 via ultrahigh‐affinity binding, preventing CCR2+ macrophage recruitment and breaking a key fibro‐inflammatory circuit. This approach demonstrates robust efficacy in murine and porcine

Health related quality of life among pregnant women living with HIV in Kenya, results from comparing a patient generated index and the Euroqol 5 dimension 3 level

open access: yesBMC Women's Health, 2022
Background Standardized tools are used to measure health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and they focus on selected physical, emotional, and social functioning. This approach may miss out on the heterogeneity of HRQoL among various sub-populations.

Matrix Viscoelasticity Regulates Dendritic Cell Migration and Immune Priming

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Matrix viscoelasticity is a key mechanical feature of the tumor microenvironment but remains poorly understood in immune regulation. Here, we develop a tunable collagen platform to decouple viscoelasticity from stiffness and show that slow‐relaxing matrices constrain dendritic cell migration by limiting actomyosin‐driven matrix remodeling, thereby ...

Spironolactone for People Age 70 Years and Older With Osteoarthritic Knee Pain:A Proof‐of‐Concept Trial [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Objective: To determine whether spironolactone could benefit older people with osteoarthritis (OA), based on a previous study showing that spironolactone improved quality of life. Methods: This parallel-group, randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind

Multimodal Haptic Perception Through Synergistic Nanocomposite Sensor Arrays

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Multi‐modal fingertip haptics are advanced through a bioinspired &vertical‐via' electronic skin architecture. A confined PDMS/MWCNT/NiNP nanocomposite, sitting at the percolation threshold, enables tactile, thermal, and magnetic sensing. A unique via‐density gradient and dedicated &Un‐Touch' reference nodes provide robust spatial resolution and signal ...

The societal monetary value of a QALY associated with EQ-5D-3L health gains [PDF]

open access: yesThe European Journal of Health Economics, 2019
There is an extensive body of empirical research that focuses on the societal monetary value of a quality-adjusted life year (MVQALY). Many of these studies have found the estimates to be inversely associated with the size of the health gain, and thus not conforming to the linearity assumption imposed in the QALY model.

Convergent and discriminative validity of the Frail-VIG index with the EQ-5D-3L in people cared for in primary health care [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Background The Frail-VIG frailty index has been developed recently. It is an instrument with a multidimensional approach and a pragmatic purpose that allows rapid and efficient assessment of the degree of frailty in the context of clinical practice.

CDK4/6 Inhibition Induces CD8+ T Cell Antitumor Immunity via MIF‐Induced Functional Orchestration of Tumor‐Associated Macrophages

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CDK4/6 inhibition promotes CD8+ T cell expansion through tumor‐macrophage crosstalk by activating HIF‐1α and enhancing MIF‐CD44/CD74 signaling. This reprograms TAMs to boost MHC‐I antigen presentation, and CDK4/6 inhibitor‐trained M1 TAM supernatant therapy synergizes with low‐dose PD‐1 blockade to restore antitumor immunity.
