Combined 5‐aminolevulinic acid and ferric ammonium citrate treatment promotes hair follicle growth by activating dermal papilla cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
5‐Aminolevulinic acid combined with ferric ammonium citrate (5‐ALA/FAC) stimulates dermal papilla cell activity and promotes hair follicle growth. The treatment enhances ERK and AKT signaling, increases hair‐inductive gene expression, and restores dermal papilla function suppressed by dihydrotestosterone and oxidative stress, resulting in enhanced hair

Why human connection is the true metric of research success

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human‐centred mentorship can be shaped by mentor attributes, actions, intrinsic drive and career ambition. Drawing on reflections across Singapore and France, as well as workshop insights from FEBS‐IUBMB ENABLE 2024, this article shows that human‐centred mentorship creates the conditions for sustainable growth, well‐being and retention in research ...

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

Generating correct and efficient equality and hashing methods using JEqualityGen

open access: yes, 2010

Refinement of amino‐acid conformation vs. difference density maps in time‐resolved serial femtosecond crystallography data analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The dFoCC pipeline starts with observed DED and resting‐state coordinates, which are then used to generate a library of triggered states. Correlation analysis of the calculated DED features of each candidate vs observed DED permits quantitative evaluation of candidate structural quality.

An improved Landauer principle with finite-size corrections

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2014
Landauerʼs principle relates entropy decrease and heat dissipation during logically irreversible processes. Most theoretical justifications of Landauerʼs principle either use thermodynamic reasoning or rely on specific models based on arguable ...

The economic case for equality in Ireland

open access: yes, 2013
The economic case for greater equality has been an increasing topic of academic debate over the past decade. Even though there are a number of studies that tackle the issue of discrimination in Ireland, the economic case for equality is not well ...
