Calculation of Equivalent Stiffness of Corrugated Thin-Walled Tube

Lecture Notes in Mechanical Engineering, 2019
The problem of calculation of the stiffness of a rod equivalent to corrugated thin-walled tube is considered. Tensile stiffness, bending stiffness, and shear stiffness are found from solving static problems for a corrugated shell. A version of the classical theory of thin shells is used.

Spectral Finite Element: Equivalent Force and Equivalent Stiffness Methods

49th AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference
16th AIAA/ASME/AHS Adaptive Structures Conference
10t, 2008
In this paper vibration characteristics of 3-D structures consisting of notched rods are studied. They are studied using Spectral Finite Element Method in conjunction with perturbation techniques. Two new methods, Equivalent Force Method and Equivalent Stiffness Method, which enable systematic calculation of displacements are presented in this paper ...

Wrinkling Analysis of Stiffness Equivalence in Membrane Structures

Advanced Materials Research, 2010
Based on the tension field theory, a wrinkling analysis method of equivalent stiffness was proposed. The new method was derived and the feasibility was theoretically proved. And a membrane structure was analyzed by the method. The results show that the correct load responses could be quickly attained right after appearance of wrinkled elements, which ...

Concept of Equivalent Load for Stiffness and Its Application

Journal of Structural Engineering, 2008
This paper proposes the concept of “equivalent load for stiffness” (ELS) and presents the applicability of this concept to a variety of structural problems. ELS is a set of additional forces applied to an original structure to produce the same response as that of a modified structure.

Equivalent Stiffness and Compliance of Curvilinear Elastic Fibers

2012
In this paper the mechanical response of curvilinear, anisotropic and inhomogeneous elastic fibers is addressed. A general model accounting for fiber three-dimensional geometry, as well as for shear and torsional effects together with the extensional ones is rationally deduced from the three-dimensional elasticity by means of a constrained approach ...

MEASUREMENT OF EQUIVALENT STIFFNESS AND DAMPING OF SHOCK ABSORBERS

Experimental Techniques, 2002
It is demonstrated that we can use electrodynamic shakers to obtain the equivalent dynamic properties of shock absorbers for NVH applications. Application of pre-load is an issue which needs further investigation. Although a simple fixture using cotton cord worked well in this case, some shakers are capable of withstanding static pre-loads which may be

Equivalent Stiffness and Equivalent Position for Torque Strut Mount in Powertrain Mounting System

SAE International Journal of Engines, 2018

The torque strut is a key mount in three-point pendulum mounting system of powertrain. Its equivalent stiffness in two orthogonal directions is close to zero meanwhile the equivalent stiffness in another direction always remains the same as the original stiffness, which facilitates ...

Is the negative equivalent stiffness of a system possible?

Physics Education, 2015
The negative stiffness concept is seldom encountered in high school courses as well as in college courses. This paper reports a system with negative equivalent stiffness, which is the most important component in constructing a quasi-zero stiffness isolator.

Equivalent normal stiffness of the ball in granular dynamics simulations

Granular Matter, 2003
In the paper a concept of an equivalent normal ball stiffness based on averaging the work done by the nonlinear Hertz force during the impact is introduced and a numerical assessment is made on its efficiency in simulating collinear collisions. The systems of balls investigated, ranging from 2 to 30, are considered to be coupled and conservative.
