ErbB receptors and the development of the nervous system
Experimental Cell Research, 2009Tyrosine kinase receptors and their ligands allow communication between cells in the developing and adult organism. An extensive line of research has revealed that 'neuregulins', a family of EGF-like factors that signal via ErbB receptors, are used frequently for cell communication during nervous system development, and control a spectacular spectrum ...

Abstract The rodent 185 kD glycoprotein consists of 1260 amino acids (Bargmann et a/. 1986) (GenBank accession number X03662), whereas the human protein is 1255 amino acids long (Coussens eta/. 1985; Yamamoto et al. 1986) (GenBank accession number M11730).

Evolutionary Analysis of the ErbB Receptor and Ligand Families
Journal of Molecular Evolution, 2000We have compared all available deduced protein sequences of the ErbB family of receptors and their ligands. Analysis of the aligned sequences of the receptors indicates that there are some differences in the receptors that are specific to invertebrates.

ErbB receptors: new insights on mechanisms and biology
Trends in Cell Biology, 2006The ErbB family of four receptor tyrosine kinases occupies a central role in a wide variety of biological processes from neuronal development to breast cancer. New information continues to expand their biologic significance and to unravel the molecular mechanisms that underlie the signaling capacity of these receptors.

In metazoa, inductive cell-to-cell interactions play crucial roles, both in embryonic development and in homeostasis. Many such interactions are mediated by RTKs and their soluble or surface-bound ligand growth factors. Type 1 RTKs, also called the ERBB or HER family, comprises four proteins, which bind growth factors of the EGF and neuregulin families.

The ErbB Receptors as Targets for Breast Cancer Therapy
Journal of Mammary Gland Biology and Neoplasia, 1999Breast carcinomas express high levels of ErbB receptors and their ligands, and their overexpression has been associated with a more aggressive clinical behavior. For these reasons therapies directed at these receptors have the potential to be useful anti-cancer treatments.

Expression of erbB receptors mRNA in thyroid tissues
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 2004ErbB family members, such as epidermal growth factor receptor 1 (erbB1), erbB2, erbB3 and erbB4, are widely distributed in organ tissues, and these receptors are suspected tumorigenesis factors. We measured erbB mRNA in thyroid tissues of benign and malignant thyroid tumors or Graves' disease using Genescan.

The erbB gene and the EGF receptor.
Cancer surveys, 1987The epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptor is a plasma membrane glycoprotein. It contains four distinct segments: an N-terminal EGF binding domain which is exposed at the cell surface; a short transmembrane segment; a cytoplasmic domain with protein-tyrosine kinase activity; and a C-terminal regulatory segment.
