Erbium: YAG laser Lithotripsy Mechanism

Journal of Urology, 2002
We tested the hypothesis that the mechanism of long pulse erbium:YAG laser lithotripsy is photothermal.Human urinary calculi were placed in deionized water and irradiated with erbium:YAG laser energy delivered through a sapphire optical fiber. Erbium:YAG bubble dynamics were visualized with Schlieren flash photography and correlated to acoustic ...

Local structure of erbium–oxygen complexes in erbium-doped silicon and its correlation with the optical activity of erbium

Materials Science and Engineering: B, 2000
Abstract It is well-known that the sharp luminescence emission at 1.54 μm from erbium-doped silicon has set off a great interest for this material in view of its applications in the third window of optical telecommunications. It is also known that the erbium luminescence is very poor in the absence of impurities like oxygen, carbon and nitrogen, but ...

Erbium lasers in dentistry

Dental Clinics of North America, 2004
Erbium hard tissue lasers have the capability to prepare enamel, dentin, caries, cementum, and bone in addition to cutting soft tissue. The ability of hard tissue lasers to reduce or eliminate vibrations, the audible whine of drills, microfractures, and some of the discomfort that many patients fear and commonly associate with high-speed handpieces is ...

Optical Measurements in Erbium Iron and Erbium Gallium Garnet

Journal of Applied Physics, 1969
Optical absorption spectra of erbium iron garnet (ErIG) have been measured at 4.2°, 20°, and 62°K with external magnetic fields up to 25 kOe. From these measurements, the magnetic moment of the groundstate for the two magnetically inequivalent sites can be deduced as μ1=7.0 μB and μ2=4.6 μB yielding an average moment of μ=5.4 μB in the [100]-direction.

Alloys with Erbium

1991
The phase diagram has been investigated by differential thermal analysis, metallography and X-ray diffraction techniques; as in other rhodium-rare earth systems, this one shows a large number of intermediate phases, eight in this case [1]. Four of these had been identified before this work was completed, namely ErRh, ErRh2, Er3Rh, and Er7Rh3 [2, 3, 4].
