Excitation back transfer in a statistical model for upconversion in Er-doped fibres [PDF]
We report a new analytical method to evaluate the accuracy of a statistical model of the migration assisted upconversion in Er-doped fibres. Unlike the mean-field approach to the excitation back transfer which was used in a previous statistical model, we

Doppler-free frequency modulation spectroscopy of atomic erbium in a hollow cathode discharge cell
The erbium atomic system is a promising candidate for an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate of atoms with a non-vanishing orbital angular momentum ($L \neq 0$) of the electronic ground state.

Erbium environments in erbium-silicon/silica light emitting nanostructures
Co-doping of SiO2 with Si and Er to achieve silica fibre amplifiers has resulted in encouraging levels of light emission, much above those of Er-only doped SiO2. However, different fabrication methods, i.e., co-implantion and sequential implantation of Er and Si, has led to several factors difference in light levels.

Sperimagnetism in Fe(78)Er(5)B(17) and Fe(64)Er(19)B(17) metallic glasses: II. Collinear components and ferrimagnetic compensation [PDF]
Magnetization measurements on an Fe(64)Er(19)B(17) glass and polarized-beam neutron scattering measurements on Fe(78)Er(5)B(17) and Fe(64)Er(19)B(17) were described in part I. The finite spin-flip neutron scattering cross sections were calculated using a
