Upregulation of the ERG11 gene in Candida krusei by azoles.
Daru : journal of Faculty of Pharmacy, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, 2012Candida species are the agents of local and systemic opportunistic infections and have become a major cause of morbidity and mortality in the last few decades. Azole resistance in Candida krusei (C. krusei) species appears to be the result of gene alterations in relation to the ergosterol biosynthesis pathway, as well as efflux pumps.

Azoles are the most representative group of antifungal agents for the treatment of surface and invasive mycoses caused by members of the genus Candida. The mechanism of action of azoles involves competitive binding to the cytochrome P450 family enzyme lanosterol 14 alpha-demethylase (cyp51A), which catalyzes the biosynthesis of ergosterol (a key ...

Variation in the erg11 Gene from Pneumocystis jirovecii.
2010The erg11 gene codes for sterol 14-demethylase (14DM), a key enzyme in sterol biosynthesis and the target for triazole antimycotic drugs. Two sterol composition phenotypes have been described in patients with pneumonia caused by P. jirovecii; one phenotype has a much higher amount of lanosterol derivatives (C31 and C32 sterols) dominated by ...

ERG11 mutations and upregulation in clinical itraconazole-resistant isolates of Candida krusei
Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 2016To better understand the association between the ERG11 gene and drug resistance in Candida krusei, C. krusei strains were isolated from patients from January 2010 to May 2013. Susceptibility to 5-fluorocytosine (5-FC), amphotericin B (AMB), voriconazole (VRC), fluconazole (FLC), and itraconazole (ITR) were tested by broth microdilution method ...

Investigation of ERG11 and MRR1 Resistance Genes in Candida parapsilosis Isolates
Candida parapsilosis is an important fungal pathogen that is particularly isolated from blood cultures. In recent years, although there are regional differences between centres, resistance to fluconazole which is the most commonly preferred drug for candidemia, has increased in many regions.Kurt, Ozge +5 more
