Preliminary survey on parasite fauna of pumpkinseed sunfish, Lepomis gibbosus (Linnaeus, 1758) (Pisces, Teleostei, Centrarchidae) from warm-water discharge canal of the "Pomorzany" power plant in Szczecin, Poland [PDF]
A total of 103 pumpkinseed sunfish L. gibbosus was surveyed for parasites. Fourteen parasite species representing six higher taxa were recovered. Of the fish examined, 72.8 % were found to harbour parasites. The most prevalent were glochidia of Unio sp. (

Environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding of bulk zooplankton from the White and Blue Nile near Khartoum recovered 40 genus/species‐level taxa belonging to Cladocera, Copepoda, and Rotifera, representing 53%–72% of ASVs. Rotifers were the most diverse group, and low Cladocera read counts likely reflect primer mismatch despite similar morphological ...

Antagonistic Rewiring and Turnover Patterns in a Neotropical Fish–Parasite Metanetwork
ABSTRACT Integrating beta‐diversity and network analyses is an emerging approach for understanding the spatial structure of species communities. For instance, although the presence of hosts affects parasite species distribution, environmental factors can either restrict or promote the occurrence of certain parasite species by changing the abundance of ...

Carassius gibelio is an extraordinary cyprinid species exhibiting both sexual and asexual reproduction. We hypothesized that parasitism selection is one of the potential mechanisms contributing to the coexistence of the two reproductive forms of C. gibelio living in the same habitat.

FINE STRUCTURES OF ADULT FEMALE OF ERGASILUS SIEBOLDI (COPEPODA: POECILOSTOMATOIDEA) FROM EGYPTIAN FRESHWATER FISH (BAGRUS BAYAD) [PDF]
Detailed fine structures of Ergasilus sieboldi female from Egypt was studied using both Light microscopy (LM) and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results demonstrated that adult female is cyclopiform with 10 segments measuring 1.4 ± 0.05 mm in ...

Abstract Elevated concentrations of contaminants have negative impacts on aquatic organisms and their parasites. Changes in parasite infections have been proposed as a technique for monitoring the health of aquatic ecosystems. Furthermore, alterations in physiological responses (biomarkers) of organisms have also been used to delineate ecosystem ...
