A Review of the Erosion of Thermal Barrier Coatings. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The application of thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) to components with internal cooling in the hot gas stream of gas turbine engines has facilitated a steep increase in the turbine entry temperature and the associated increase in performance and ...

Studying and comparing the erosion-enhanced pitting corrosion of X52 and X100 steels

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2012
The critical ratio of Cl− to HCO− concerning the corrosion rate has been determined with and without electrolyte erosion in 0.3 M NaHCO3 by using various concentrations of NaCl for X52 and X100 steels.

Augmentation of the mechanical and chemical resistance characteristics of an Al2O3-based refractory by means of high power diode laser surface treatment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Augmentation of the wear rate and wear life characteristics of an Al2O3-based refractory within both normal and corrosive (NaOH and HNO3) environmental conditions was effected by means of high power diode laser (HPDL) surface treatment.

Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Investigation on Ultrasonic Cavitation Erosion of Aluminum–Titanium Alloys in Sodium Chloride Solution

open access: yesCrystals, 2021
Two kinds of Ti-alloys, i.e., Al–5Ti and Al–10Ti alloys, were manufactured in this study, and their ultrasonic cavitation erosion behaviors in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution were evaluated by the cumulative mass loss, scanning electronic micrograph, and three ...

Erosion--Corrosion [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
The deterioration of materials by corrosion or erosion by itself presents a formidable problem and for this reason investigators have studied these two phenomena independently. In fact, there are very few systematic studies on E-C and the majority of references mention it only in passing.

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.
