Specimen diameter, impact velocity, erosion rate and particle density in a slurry pot erosion tester
Wear, 1993Using the technique of measuring impact crater size, stagnation line impact velocities of glass spheres (mean diameter 666 μm) suspended in diesel oil at 40 °C on cylindrical copper erosion test specimens ranging in diameter from 3.2 mm to 9.5 mm tested at a nominal speed of 18.7 m s−1 in a slurry pot tester have been measured. Similarly, the variation

Numerical simulation of a low-density plasma erosion opening switch
The Physics of Fluids, 1986Current conduction through a low density (∼1012 cm−3) collisionless plasma injected between two coaxial conducting cylinders is simulated using a 2 (1)/(2) -D, electromagnetic particle-in-cell code. Plasma is injected through the anode towards the cathode with flow velocity, VF, and is assumed to be azimuthally symmetric.

Effects of Particle Size and Bulk Density on Erosion of Quartz Particles
Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 1998Experiments have been done in order to determine the effects of particle size and bulk density on the erosion of quartz particles. Average particle sizes ranged from 5 to 1,350 μm, while bulk densities ranged from approximately 1.65 to 1.95 g/cm³. For the larger particles, the sediments behaved in a noncohesive manner, i.e., they consolidated rapidly ...

Erosion of a sharp density interface by a turbulent jet at moderate Froude and Reynolds numbers
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2018Using water–salt water laboratory experiments, we investigate the mechanism of erosion by a turbulent jet impinging onto a density interface, for moderate Reynolds and Froude numbers. The Froude number is defined by $Fr_{i}=u_{i}/\sqrt{b_{i}g^{\prime }}$, with $u_{i}$ and $b_{i}$, the typical velocity and width of the jet at the interface, and $g ...

Effect of Applied Current Density on Cavitation-Erosion Characteristics for Anodized Al Alloy
Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, 2018Surface finishing is as important as selection of material to achieve durability. Surface finishing is a process to provide surface with the desired performance and features by applying external forces such as thermal energy or stress. This study investigated the optimum supply current density for preventing from cavitation damages by applying to an ...

Density Development during Erosion Experiments of Cohesive Sediments
1998The density development during erosion experiments was investigated. The calculation of the erosion rate requires the knowledge of the density profile with respect to the consolidation time(Parchure, 1984). At present, the basic assumption in the calculations is that the density profile is achieved from consolidation experiments conducted with the same
