Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

Component-by-component construction of good intermediate-rank lattice rules

open access: yes, 2003
It is known that the generating vector of a rank-1 lattice rule can be constructed component-by-component to achieve strong tractability error bounds in both weighted Korobov spaces and weighted Sobolev spaces.

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Some New and Sharp Inequalities of Composite Simpson’s Formula for Differentiable Functions with Applications

open access: yesMathematics
Composite integral formulas offer greater accuracy by dividing the interval into smaller subintervals, which better capture the local behavior of function. In the finite volume method for solving differential equations, composite formulas are mostly used

Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for

Error Estimation of Weddle’s Rule for Generalized Convex Functions with Applications to Numerical Integration and Computational Analysis

open access: yesMathematics
This paper presents new integral inequalities for differentiable generalized convex functions in the second sense, with a focus on improving the accuracy of Weddle’s formula for numerical integration.

An Inequality of Ostrowski-Grüss Type for Twice Differentiable Mappings and Applications in Numerical Integration

open access: yes, 1998
In this paper we derive a new integral inequality of Ostrowski-Grüss type and apply it to estimate the error bounds for some numerical quadrature ...

Nonlinear error bounds for quasiconvex inequality systems

open access: yes, 2017
The error bound is an inequality that restricts the distance from a vector to a given set by a residual function. The error bound has so many useful applications, for example in variational analysis, in convergence analysis of algorithms, in sensitivity ...
