DAEM: A Data- and Application-Aware Error Analysis Methodology for Approximate Adders

open access: yesInformation, 2023
Approximate adders are some of the fundamental arithmetic operators that are being employed in error-resilient applications, to achieve performance/energy/area gains.

Forecasting the Dialysis Burden in Japan: Validation‐Based Projections of Prevalence and Incidence Through 2050

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Japan has one of the highest dialysis prevalence rates worldwide and a shrinking, aging population. Whether dialysis burden has entered a sustained post‐peak phase or whether recent declines partly reflect pandemic‐related disruptions remains uncertain.

The polynomial and the Poisson measurement error models: some further results on quasi score and corrected score estimation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The asymptotic covariance matrices of the corrected score, the quasi score, and the simple score estimators of a polynomial measurement error model have been derived in the literature.

An efficient Legendre-Galerkin approximation for the fourth-order equation with singular potential and SSP boundary condition

open access: yesOpen Mathematics, 2023
In this article, we develop an efficient Legendre-Galerkin approximation based on a reduced-dimension scheme for the fourth-order equation with singular potential and simply supported plate (SSP) boundary conditions in a circular domain. First, we deduce

Can I Trust This Location Estimate? Reproducibly Benchmarking the Methods of Dynamic Accuracy Estimation of Localization

open access: yesSensors, 2022
Despite the great attention that the research community has paid to the creation of novel indoor positioning methods, a rather limited volume of works has focused on the confidence that Indoor Positioning Systems (IPS) assign to the position estimates ...

Errors on errors – Estimating cosmological parameter covariance [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2014
AbstractCurrent and forthcoming cosmological data analyses share the challenge of huge datasets alongside increasingly tight requirements on the precision and accuracy of extracted cosmological parameters. The community is becoming increasingly aware that these requirements not only apply to the central values of parameters but, equally important, also

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Multitarget error estimation and adaptivity in aerodynamic flow simulations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Important quantities in aerodynamic flow simulations are the aerodynamic force coefficients including the pressure induced and the viscous stress induced drag, lift and moment coefficients.

Goal Oriented Time Adaptivity Using Local Error Estimates

open access: yesAlgorithms, 2020
We consider initial value problems (IVPs) where we are interested in a quantity of interest (QoI) that is the integral in time of a functional of the solution. For these, we analyze goal oriented time adaptive methods that use only local error estimates.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
