Mapping and regulation of the cel genes in Erwinia chrysanthemi
Molecular Genetics and Genomics, 1988Chromosomal mutations of the celZ and celY genes which encode two different endoglucanases in Erwinia chrysanthemi 3937 were obtained by a three-step procedure: (i) in Escherichia coli, insertions of lacZ fusion-forming mini-Mu bacteriophages in the cel genes cloned on plasmids and screening of cel-lac fusions, (ii) Mu-mediated transduction in E ...

Organization of a pectate lyase gene family in Erwinia chrysanthemi
The pelA, pelD and pelE genes encode three of the five major pectate lyase (PL) isoenzymes (PLa, PLd and PLe) in Erwinia chrysanthemi strains B374 and 3937. These genes were previously isolated from genomic libraries or by in vivo cloning as R' factors promoted by the pULB113 plasmid.

Amber suppressors of Erwinia chrysanthemi
Annales de l'Institut Pasteur / Microbiologie, 1987Mutations trp1 and thyA1, both of a polyauxotrophic derivative of the Erwinia chrysanthemi strain B374, were characterized as amber mutations with an Escherichia coli suppressor, supA1P2, which inserts a glutamine in response to UAG. Simultaneous reversion of both mutations allowed us to isolate amber suppressor mutants of E. chrysanthemi.

Extracellular polysaccharide of Erwinia chrysanthemi
Carbohydrate Research, 1995Abstract The extracellular polysaccharide (EPS) produced by E. chrysanthemi pv. zeae strain SR260, a strain pathogenic to corn, has a branched hexasaccharide repeat unit consisting of a glucomannorhamnan backbone [ → 3)-β- d - Glc p-(1 → 4)-α- d - Man p-(1 → 3)-α- l - Rha p-(1 → ] and a trisaccharide side-chain [ α- l - Rha ...

Erwinia chrysanthemi spp. are gram-negative bacterial phytopathogens causing soft rots in a number of plants. The structure of the extracellular polysaccharide (EPS) produced by the E. chrysanthemi strain A350, which is a lacZ- mutant of the wild type strain 3937, pathogenic to Saintpaulia, has been determined using a combination of chemical and ...

Extracellular polysaccharide of Erwinia chrysanthemi CU643
Carbohydrate Research, 1999Erwinia chrysanthemi are gram-negative bacterial phytopathogens causing soft rots in a number of plants. The structure of the extracellular polysaccharide (EPS) produced by E. chrysanthemi strain CU643, pathogenic to Philodendron, has been determined using a combination of chemical and physical techniques including methylation analysis, high- and low ...

A fourth metalloprotease gene in Erwinia chrysanthemi
Research in Microbiology, 1992Erwinia chrysanthemi, a Gram-negative phytopathogenic bacterium, was previously shown to secrete 3 related extracellular metalloproteases, A, B and C via a specific signal-peptide-independent pathway. A new gene (prtG) encoding a fourth, 52-kDa metalloprotease was identified on the same recombinant cosmid (pEW1) that carries the genes for the ...

Extracellular polysaccharide of Erwinia chrysanthemi Ech6
International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 1994Many strains of Erwinia chrysanthemi, which are Gram-negative bacterial phytopathogens, produce copious amounts of extracellular polysaccharides. The extracellular polysaccharide from E. chrysanthemi pv. zeae strain SR 260, a phytopathogen of corn, is a branched-chain glucomannorhamnan of proven structure (Gray et al., Carbohydr. Res.

Purification and characterization of the nuclease NucM of Erwinia chrysanthemi
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Gene Structure and Expression, 1995The major periplasmic nuclease of Erwinia chrysanthemi strain 3937, NucM, has been purified near to homogeneity by a one step purification procedure, using chromatography on a sulfopropyl column. NucM cleaves randomly single and double-stranded DNA and RNA. It does not need divalent cations for its action, and is more active in low salt buffers.

Comparison of extracellular polysaccharides of Erwinia chrysanthemi spp
International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 1996Two extracellular polysaccharides from strains of Erwinia chrysanhemi Ech 1 and 9, phytopathogens of potatoes, have been isolated and purified. Both have similar compositions and other properties to that produced by strain SR 260, a phytopathogen of corn.
