Erythrocyte aggregation and metabolic syndrome
Clinical Hemorheology and Microcirculation, 2014Erythrocyte aggregation has been consistently associated with insulin resistance, central obesity and hypertension in the literature. Oxidative stress and chronic inflammation are almost always present in metabolic syndrome (MetS). Prooxidants and adipocytokines generated in MetS alter erythrocyte morphology, decrease erythrocyte deformability and ...

Erythrocyte aggregation during normal pregnancy
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1983Red blood cell aggregation induced by fibrinogen is a major determinant of the non-Newtonian flow behavior of blood and has been suggested as a possible contributing factor for thrombogenesis. Given the elevated fibrinogen levels and the incidence of thrombotic accidents in pregnancy, a study was designed to assess red blood cell aggregation at ...

Methodological Aspects of Erythrocyte Aggregation
Recent Patents on Anti-Cancer Drug Discovery, 2007The aim of this paper is to analyze merits and demerits of methodological approaches designed for investigations of erythrocyte aggregation--a process, which plays a crucial role in rheological and transport properties of blood. Ideally, erythrocyte aggregation should be characterized in terms of the time-dependent gyration radius of the aggregates and

Effect of desmopressin on erythrocyte aggregation
Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 2008Experiments on rats showed that desmopressin in doses recommended for single injections to humans increased erythrocyte aggregation. A close correlation between erythrocyte aggregation index and blood viscosity, on the one hand, and plasma content of acid glycosaminoglycans on the other was detected.

Erythrocyte aggregability and AB0 blood groups
Clinical Hemorheology and Microcirculation, 2009It is not established whether there is an association between erythrocyte aggregation and AB0 blood type, as glycophorins carry sialic acid which is responsible for the negative erythrocyte surface charge and the antigenicity for AB0 blood groups. We have determined erythrocyte aggregation by means of the Myrenne aggregometer in 114 healthy volunteers,

Albumin affects erythrocyte aggregation and sedimentation
European Journal of Clinical Investigation, 1995Abstract. Erythrocyte aggregation and sedimentation is determined by the concentration of high molecular plasma proteins such as fibrinogen and immuno‐globulins. The role of albumin, the most abundant plasma protein, is controversial. We analysed the influence of human albumin (0–80 gL‐1) on sedimentation behaviour of erythrocytes suspended ...

Blood Viscosity: Influence of Erythrocyte Aggregation
Science, 1967The addition of purified canine or bovine fibrinogen to suspensions of canine erythocytes in Ringer solution caused an increase in viscosity and the formation of aggregates of erythocytes. Both of these effects became increasingly pronounced as the fibrinogen concentration was raised, and they approached plateaus with 1 gram of fibrinogen ...

Animal species differences in erythrocyte aggregability
American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology, 1992Species differences in erythrocyte aggregability were investigated employing our whole blood erythrocyte aggregometer. Blood was sampled from seven species, including humans and anesthetized (30 mg/kg pentobarbital) animals. The erythrocyte aggregation rates were the following (in s-1): cats, 0.213 +/- 0.027 (means +/- SD); dogs, 0.164 +/- 0.027; men,

Ultrasonic evaluation of erythrocyte aggregation dynamics
Biorheology, 1989The dynamics of aggregation and disaggregation of blood of varying hematocrit in oscillatory flow in a distensible horizontal tube was determined by measuring the developing echo intensity of the blood samples with a 10 MHz B-mode ultrasonic scanner. Early aggregation could be detected within 10 sec. of stoppage of flow.

Erythrocyte deformability and erythrocyte aggregation in preeclampsia.
Clinical hemorheology and microcirculation, 2001One of the features of preeclampsia is impaired blood rheology due to altered erythrocyte aggregation and erythrocyte deformability. We investigated these two parameters which affect the viscosity of blood, along with serum and intraerythrocytic magnesium concentrations, immunoglobulin titres and fibrinogen concentration in 12 preeclamptic women ...
