Association Between Postoperative Pain and Inflammatory Biomarkers After Ovariohysterectomy in Dogs: A Pilot Study

Elective ovariohysterectomy in dogs induced significant time‐dependent changes in postoperative pain scores and systemic inflammatory/stress biomarkers. However, these biomarkers did not reliably reflect acute pain intensity, supporting multimodal pain assessment rather than biomarker‐based evaluation alone.

Maropitant showed the most consistent controlled evidence for reducing emesis incidence in cats under perioperative or induced‐emesis conditions. Ondansetron may be beneficial in timing‐specific settings, whereas metoclopramide evidence remains insufficient for pooled inference. .
