Enterolyin S, a Polythiazole‐containing Hemolytic Peptide from Enterococcus caccae [PDF]

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 25, Issue 12, June 17, 2024.
The Streptolysin S (SLS)‐type of linear azol(in)e‐containing peptides (LAPs) belong to a family of ribosomally synthesized and post‐translationally modified peptides (RiPPs) known for their hemolytic activities. The chemical structure of SLS has remained elusive despite its discovery 85 years ago.

Optimizing Solvent-Assisted SAGD in Deep Extra-Heavy Oil Reservoirs: Mechanistic Insights and a Case Study in Liaohe

open access: yesEnergies
This study investigates the feasibility and optimization of Expanding Solvent Steam-Assisted Gravity Drainage (ES-SAGD) in deep extra-heavy oil reservoirs, with a focus on the Shu 1-38-32 block in the Liaohe Basin.

Analytical and numerical modeling of the Cyclic ES-SAGD process

open access: yes, 2019
The world is still highly dependable on the energy that comes from oil. The current demand for energy has given importance to oil reservoirs that were normally overlooked in the past due to its properties. One example is found in the Canadian heavy oil sands.

Impact of Shale Barriers on SAGD and ES-SAGD Performance

open access: yes, 2022
Shales are the common type of heterogeneity present in the oil sand reservoirs. Shale barriers usually have very low permeability leads to obstruction for fluid flow inside the reservoirs towards the wellbore. SAGD (steam assisted gravity drainage) and ES-SAGD (expanding solvent assisted gravity drainage) rely heavily on gravity drainage, and thus the ...

Improved modeling of the steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) process [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
textThe Steam-Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) Process involves the injection of steam through a horizontal well and the production of heavy oil through a lower horizontal well.

In‐situ asphaltene capture with iron oxide nanoparticles in steam‐assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) for improved recovery and partial upgrading of bitumen

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Key improvements obtained by incorporating nanoparticles into a lab‐scale SAGD process configuration. The bar plots show enhanced oil recovery, reduced viscosity, and increased asphaltene adsorption in nanoparticle‐assisted scenarios compared with conventional SAGD.

Triblock Polymer Engineering Enables Hydration‐Rich, High‐Performance, Fouling‐Resistant Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 36, 4 May 2026.
A molecularly engineered triblock polymer (PHZ) rapidly reorganizes into a hydration‐rich interfacial layer on diverse surfaces, strongly suppressing hydrophobic attraction and fouling. The triblock polymer provides robust energy and steric barriers to oily foulants, enabling high‐performance antifouling at ultralow dosage.

Liquid–liquid equilibrium studies of n‐butane–bitumen system with application to solvent‐aided in situ bitumen recovery

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, Volume 104, Issue 1, Page 425-441, January 2026.
Abstract Solvent‐assisted recovery methods have gained attention as an alternative to conventional thermal methods which have significant environmental drawbacks and high greenhouse gas emissions. Solvent‐assisted recovery methods can lead to various phase equilibria, such as vapour–liquid equilibrium (VLE) and liquid–liquid equilibrium (LLE), under ...

Investigation of Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) and Expanding Solvent-SAGD (ES-SAGD) Processes in Complex Fractured Models: Effects of Fractures' Geometrical Properties

open access: yes, 2011
The Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) process has been studied theoretically and experimentally in conventional models and reservoirs and is found a promising EOR method for certain heavy oil reservoirs, but its applicability for fractured systems ...
