Analysis of Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamase (ESBL) Genes of Non-Invasive ESBL Enterobacterales in Southeast Austria in 2017

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2022
Extended spectrum beta lactamases producing Enterobacteriaceae are a major player in the antibiotic resistance challenge. In general, the situation regarding antibiotic resistance in Austria is very good compared to many other countries. Perhaps this is why there is a lack of data on the distribution of ESBL genes in the clinical setting.

Phenotype Detection and Drug Resistance Analysis of Carbapenem‐Resistant Gram‐Negative Bacilli

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
The increasing prevalence of infections caused by carbapenem‐resistant organisms (CRO) represents a global health issue. Therefore, a rapid and accurate method for detecting these microbes in any clinical microbiology laboratory is crucial for the prevention and control of their transmission, as well as for clinical treatment.

Assessing the occurrence and transfer dynamics of ESBL/pAmpC-producing Escherichia coli across the broiler production pyramid

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)- and plasmid mediated AmpC-type cephalosporinase (pAmpC)-producing Escherichia coli (ESBL/pAmpC E. coli) in food-producing animals is a major public health concern. This study aimed at quantifying ESBL/pAmpC-E.

Studies Concerned with the Structure and Synthesis of the Anti‐viral Tropolone Glycoside Liriosmaside A

open access: yesChemistryOpen, EarlyView.
The core of the anti‐viral troponoid natural product liriosmaside A lacking the 3‐hydroxy‐3‐methylglutaric acid (HMGA) side‐chain at C6′ has been prepared. The early steps involved the gem‐dibromocyclopropane‐mediated ring‐expansion of a readily‐obtained Robinson annulation product.

Evaluation of the ability of four ESBL-screening media to detect ESBL-producing Salmonella and Shigella

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2014
The aim of this study was to compare the ability of four commercially available media for screening extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) to detect and identify ESBL-producing Salmonella and Shigella in fecal samples. A total of 71 Salmonella- and 21 Shigella-isolates producing ESBL(A) and/or AmpC, were received at Norwegian Institute of Public ...

The Carrier Rate of Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamase (ESBL) Producing Bacteria in Cockroaches (Periplaneta americana) in Hospital and Community

open access: yesFolia Medica Indonesiana, 2021
Highlight :• Bacteriologically for colonization of  ESBL producing Enterobacteriaceae in cockroaches (Periplaneta americana) were analyzed. • The prevalence of ESBL producing bacteria among cockroaches in hospitals is bigger than in households. Abstract:

The prevalence of plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance and ESBL-production in Enterobacteriaceae isolated from urinary tract infections

open access: yesInfection and Drug Resistance, 2018
Introduction β-lactam and fluoroquinolone antibiotics are usually used for the treatment of urinary tract infections (UTIs). The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance (PMQR) and extended spectrum β ...

Pharmacokinetics of continuous infusion ceftolozane/tazobactam in two patients with extensive total body surface area burns

open access: yesPharmacotherapy: The Journal of Human Pharmacology and Drug Therapy, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction Treatment of infections in patients with burn injuries is challenging due to altered antimicrobial pharmacokinetics. Continuous infusion β‐lactam therapy may be a useful antimicrobial stewardship strategy to improve pharmacodynamic target attainment in this population.
