Environmental Drivers on Blue Tit Nest Microbiome: An Experimental Study

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 7, July 2026.
Elevated humidity and temperature altered nest microbial composition and its associations with parasitism and nestling condition. These findings identify nest microclimate as an important driver of nest microbiomes with consequences for avian development.

Moving beyond environmental filtering hypotheses: Deciphering the drivers of congeneric plant introductions in an oceanic archipelago

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2026, Issue 7, July 2026.
Understanding why only some species succeed in naturalizing and invading ecosystems has intrigued scientists since Darwin's time. The pre‐adaptation hypothesis posits that introduced species closely related to natives, therefore ecologically similar, are more likely to establish than others.

Brain Aging in Specific Phobia: An ENIGMA‐Anxiety Mega‐Analysis

open access: yesHuman Brain Mapping, Volume 47, Issue 10, July 2026.
This ENIGMA‐Anxiety mega‐analysis did not find advanced brain aging across a wide age range in adult participants with specific phobia, compared to controls. However, a robust diagnosis‐by‐age interaction was observed, with greater relative brain age in young adults with formally diagnosed specific phobia.

Broadband Mode Converter With Customizable Modal Ratio Leveraging Subwavelength Engineering for Advanced Multimode Silicon Photonics

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, Volume 20, Issue 13, 8 July 2026.
This work introduces a customizable mode converter for multimode silicon photonics, enabling precise control over the conversion ratio between optical modes. The device operates across a broad wavelength range (1350–1700 nm) with 15 distinct conversion levels.

Long‐Term Marine‐Induced Aging Mechanisms in FDM‐Printed PC, ABS and HIPS: Molecular and Microstructural Evolution

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, Volume 311, Issue 7, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Additive manufacturing by fused deposition modelling (FDM) has expanded the use of engineering thermoplastics in environments where long‐term durability remains insufficiently characterized. In this work, the molecular and microstructural aging mechanisms of FDM‐printed polycarbonate (PC), acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene (ABS) and high‐impact ...
