A Universal Way to Manipulate Droplet via Light‐Fueled Thermocapillary Convection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A non‐contact light‐induced droplet manipulation strategy fueled by mid‐infrared (MIR) light irradiation is introduced. No additional additives and/or complex substrate are required. Here, thermocapillary convection, directly generated by temperature gradient at outer surface of droplet via localized surface heating, plays a key role to propel the ...

INFLUENCE OF PLANT ESSENTIAL OILS ON SELECTED PARAMETERS OF THE PERFORMANCE OF LAYING HENS [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Central European Agriculture, 2010
The experiment was designed to investigate the effects of feed supplementation with essential oils on egg weight and body mass of laying hens. Hens of the laying breed Isa Brown were randomly divided at the day of hatching into 3 groups (n=26) and fed ...

Tunable Synthetic Hydrogel Modulates Hepatic Lineage Specification of Human Liver Organoid

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, a synthetic hydrogel is reported that supports the formation of hiPSC‐derived human liver organoids (HLOs). Hepatic lineage specification can be modulated via conjugation of RGD peptide to hydrogel: RGD‐conjugated hydrogels promote cholangiocyte differentiation, whereas RGD‐free hydrogels favor hepatocyte commitment of HLO cells.

Greek Olive Oil: How Can Its International Market Potential Be Realized? [PDF]

open access: yes
Trade issues affecting virgin olive oil originating in Greece are examined. A gravity model is estimated to determine the factors affecting trade in olive oil. The results provided by the gravity model yield information that is central to determining the

High‐Concentration Mesogen‐Assisted Exfoliation of Low‐Dimensional Nanomaterials for Achieving Ultralow‐Temperature Actuations of Liquid Crystal Elastomers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Most matter is nominally frozen in the polar regions or space, and liquid crystal materials are no exception. Consequently, soft actuators, including liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs), are inoperative under such extreme cold in response to stimuli, as their motion relies on mechanical deformation.

Essential Oils as a Novel Anti-Biofilm Strategy Against Salmonella Enteritidis Isolated from Chicken Meat

open access: yesMicroorganisms
Salmonella Enteritidis is a serious foodborne threat, being the most reported Salmonella serovar in the past several years. Biofilm formation contributes significantly to its persistence and resistance in food processing environments, making it harder to

Bicontinuous Microarchitected Scaffolds Provide Topographic Cues That Govern Neuronal Behavior and Maturation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A scalable biomimetic platform transforms bioinert poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate into neuroinstructive matrices via integrating solvent transfer‐induced phase separation, microfluidics, and 3D bioprinting. Bicontinuous, hyperbolically curved microporous networks embedded within a fibrous construct elicit rapid adhesion, robust proliferation, and ...
