Hydrolysis of Anhydrides by Esterases
Nature, 1953IN recent investigations1 the idea was expressed that tetraethyl pyrophosphate and related inhibitors of esterases are enzymatically split into a positive phosphonium ion and a negative residue, the former attaching itself to a nucleophilic group in the active surface of the enzyme.

Esterases in fireflies and their inhibition
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1961Abstract Homogenized tissues of fireflies contain an aliesterase and a cholinesierase. The first enzyme is distributed throughout the body; the second one is concentrated mainly in the head. The aliesterase was inhibited by DFP and by the carbamate-type insecticides, Isolan and Sevin.
