Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

An estimate for solutions to the Schrödinger equation

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2004
Summary: In this note, we find a priori estimates in the \(L_2\)-norm for solutions to the Schrödinger equation with a parameter. It is shown that a constant occurring in the inequality does not depend on the value of the parameter. In particular, the estimate is valid for eigenfunctions associated with the Schrödinger operator with arbitrary boundary ...

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Effect of Reconstructive Surgery and Functional Brace Treatments on Kinesthesia in Patients with Acute Anterior Cruciate Ligament Tear

open access: yesJournal of Rehabilitation, 2013
Objective: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear is one of the most common knee injuries. Kinesthesia after ACL tear is impaired. In this study, using hybrid generalized estimation equations (GEE) can be efficient method in analyzing correlated data, we ...

Establishing an assay to evaluate d‐amino acid oxidase enzyme kinetics and inhibition using WST‐8 redox dye

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study investigated a novel WST‐8‐based assay for evaluating d‐Amino acid oxidase (DAO) inhibitors. We confirmed its effectiveness using known inhibitors and found that uremic toxins possess relatively weak inhibitory activity compared to existing drugs.

Short-term changes in bodily pain and associated baseline factors in patients with fibromyalgia receiving paraprobiotic supplementation: a retrospective observational study

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine
BackgroundFibromyalgia is characterized by heterogeneous pain trajectories, and short-term clinical improvement may vary across patients. We explored whether routinely collected baseline clinical variables were associated with short-term bodily pain ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Computing Multi-Homogeneous Bezout Numbers is Hard

open access: yes, 2004
The multi-homogeneous Bezout number is a bound for the number of solutions of a system of multi-homogeneous polynomial equations, in a suitable product of projective spaces.

Quantitative proteomic analysis reveals different characteristics of bladder cancer cells after exposure to bisphenol A

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bisphenol A (BPA), a common chemical in plastics, exerts dual effects on bladder cancer cells: low doses promote growth and migration, while high doses suppress growth and migration. Multi‐omics and bioinformatics reveal BPA acts via MAPK and inflammatory pathways.

Efficiency evaluation of quadratic inference functions in the analysis of longitudinal medical data

open access: yesRussian Open Medical Journal, 2018
Background ― In medical research, longitudinal studies have important and functional roles. Generalized estimating equation (GEE) is used for the analysis of longitudinal and correlated data required to determine the correlation structure among responses.
