Rule Induction by Estimation of Distribution Algorithms

open access: yes, 2002
In this chapter a preliminary work on the use of Estimation of Distribution Algorithms (EDAs) for the induction of classification rules is presented. Each individual obtained by simulation of the probability distribution learnt in each EDA generation represents a disjunction of a finite number of simple rules.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

A Data-Driven State Estimation Based on Sample Migration for Low-Observable Distribution Networks

open access: yesAlgorithms
This paper proposes a data-driven state estimation based on sample migration for low-observable distribution networks, addressing the challenge of traditional state estimators being unsuitable for distribution networks with low observability.

A comparative study of hybrid estimation distribution algorithms in solving the facility layout problem

open access: yesEgyptian Informatics Journal, 2021
The Estimation Distribution Algorithm (EDA) is an evolutionary algorithm that uses probabilistic models to create candidate solutions. Previous researchers have suggested various hybrid methods to avoid the premature convergence of EDA.

Real-Time Estimation of the Distribution of Brake Response Times for an Individual Driver Using Vehicular Ad Hoc Network

open access: yes, 2014
Adapting the functioning of the collision warning systems to the specific drivers' characteristics is of great benefit to drivers. For example, by customizing collision warning algorithms we can minimize false alarms, thereby reducing injuries and deaths

Interrogating the immune landscape of microsatellite stable RAS‐mutated colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
COLOSSUS project RAS‐mutated MSS colon cancer study explored transcriptomics and immune cell density by immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunoscore (IS), ISIC/TuLIS scores, mutation counts, and detected different prevalences but similar microenvironment composition across immune markers with clinical relevance for future immunotherapy combination ...

Regularized continuous estimation of distribution algorithms

open access: yesApplied Soft Computing, 2013
Regularization is a well-known technique in statistics for model estimation which is used to improve the generalization ability of the estimated model. Some of the regularization methods can also be used for variable selection that is especially useful in high-dimensional problems.

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...
