Ubiquitination of transcription factors in cancer: unveiling therapeutic potential

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In cancer, dysregulated ubiquitination of transcription factors contributes to the uncontrolled growth and survival characteristics of tumors. Tumor suppressors are degraded by aberrant ubiquitination, or oncogenic transcription factors gain stability through ubiquitination, thereby promoting tumorigenesis.

Metabolic alteration of circulating steroid hormones in women with gestational diabetes mellitus and the related risk factors

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2023
BackgroundAbnormally changed steroid hormones during pregnancy are closely related to the pathological process of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Our aim was to systematically profile the metabolic alteration of circulating steroid hormones in GDM ...

Removal of ecotoxicity of 17α-ethinylestradiol using TAML/peroxide water treatment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
17α -ethinylestradiol (EE2), a synthetic oestrogen in oral contraceptives, is one of many pharmaceuticals found in inland waterways worldwide as a result of human consumption and excretion into wastewater treatment systems. At low parts per trillion (ppt)

Bayesian Variable Selection for Probit Mixed Models Applied to Gene Selection [PDF]

open access: yesBayesian Analysis 6, 2 (2011) 209-230, 2011
In computational biology, gene expression datasets are characterized by very few individual samples compared to a large number of measurements per sample. Thus, it is appealing to merge these datasets in order to increase the number of observations and diversify the data, allowing a more reliable selection of genes relevant to the biological problem ...

Comparative single‐cell transcriptomic profiling of patient‐derived renal carcinoma cells in cellular and animal models of kidney cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We generated and characterized clear cell renal cell carcinoma models using the patient‐derived RCC243 cell line—including cell culture, orthotopic, and metastatic tumors—via single‐cell RNA‐sequencing for comparisons between models and patient tumor datasets.

Metabolomic profiling unravels DNA adducts in human breast that are formed from peroxidase mediated activation of estrogens to quinone methides. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Currently there are three major hypotheses that have been proposed for estrogen induced carcinogenicity, however exact etiology remains unknown. Based on the chemical logic, studies were undertaken to investigate if estrogens could generate quinone ...

Efficient algorithms for building representative matched pairs with enhanced generalizability [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Many recent efforts center on assessing the ability of real-world evidence (RWE) generated from non-randomized, observational data to produce results compatible with those from randomized controlled trials (RCTs). One noticeable endeavor is the RCT DUPLICATE initiative (Franklin et al., 2020, 2021).

Estrogens regulate the hepatic effects of Growth Hormone, a hormonal interplay with multiple fates

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2013
The liver responds to estrogens and GH which are critical regulators of body growth, gender-related hepatic functions, and intermediate metabolism. The effects of estrogens on liver can be direct, through the direct actions of hepatic ER, or indirect ...

Microbial community assembly, theory and rare functions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Views of community assembly have traditionally been based on the contrasting perspectives of the deterministic niche paradigm and stochastic neutral models. This study sought to determine if we could use empirical interventions conceived from a niche and
