Cholera, rotavirus and ETEC diarrhoea: some clinico-epidemiological features

Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1988
This paper analyses a few selected features from the history and clinical examination of 1258 patients with acute diarrhoea and a single laboratory diagnosis of either cholera, rotavirus, or enterotoxigenic (ETEC) Escherichia coli infection. Age distribution and seasonality in Bangladesh were also studied.

GABA attenuates ETEC-induced intestinal epithelial cell apoptosis involving GABAAR signaling and the AMPK-autophagy pathway.

Food & Function, 2019
Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) triggers diarrhea in humans and livestock. We have previously showed that ETEC promotes intestinal epithelial cell apoptosis and increases gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) concentration in the jejunum, suggesting ...

Protective anti-ETEC antibody

2020
This disclosure relates to an antibody that can protect against ETEC infection in a passive immunization set up. More specifically, it relates to a VHH grafted on an IgA scaffold and produced in plant seeds. When the seeds are given in food or feed, the subject is protected against ETEC infection.

Receptor for the F4 fimbriae of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC)

Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2015
Infection with F4(+) enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) responsible for diarrhea in neonatal and post-weaned piglets leads to great economic losses in the swine industry. These pathogenic bacteria express either of three fimbrial variants F4ab, F4ac, and F4ad, which have long been known for their importance in host infection and initiating ...

Effect of β-glucans on an ETEC infection in piglets

Veterinary Immunology and Immunopathology, 2009
The effect of orally administered beta-glucans in protecting pigs against an ETEC infection after weaning was analysed in this study. Three beta-glucans that differed in origin (Saccharomyces cerevisiae (MCG (Macrogard) and G2) or Sclerotium rolfsii (G3)) and/or extraction procedure were tested.
