Protective Effects of Potential Probiotic Pediococcus acidilactici 100 Against Multi‐Drug‐Resistant Diarrheal Escherichia coli Strains Induced Changes in Caenorhabditis elegans Model System

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
This study shows the protective effects of potential probiotic strain of Pediococci strains against diarrheal Escherichia coli strains in Caenorhabditis elegans model system. The E. coli strains resulted in severe morphological and physiological damage to the worm whereas the probiotic interventions were able to reduce these damages.

When protein losing enteropathy persists: A case series of viral and lymphatic‐associated etiologies

open access: yesJPGN Reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Protein‐losing enteropathy (PLE) is a rare condition that is characterized by loss of plasma protein in the intestines leading to hypoproteinemia with subsequent peripheral edema and possibly anasarca. The pathophysiology of PLE varies depending on the etiology and involves either intestinal mucosal injury or lymphatic system alterations ...

Oral Immunogenicity in Mice and Sows of Enterotoxigenic Escherichia Coli Outer-Membrane Vesicles Incorporated into Zein-Based Nanoparticles

open access: yesVaccines, 2019
Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) strains are a major cause of illness and death in neonatal and recently weaned pigs. The immune protection of the piglets derives from maternal colostrum, since this species does not receive maternal antibodies ...

Novel applications of the tomato microbiome: Roles and considerations for agriculture, human health, and society

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Plants, like humans, have a microbiome that helps them grow, defend themselves against pathogens, acquire nutrients, and protect themselves against environmental stresses. The microbiome of tomatoes, a staple crop grown worldwide, could be utilized not only to reduce fertilizer and pesticide applications, but also to clean up harmful pollutants ...

Long-read-sequenced reference genomes of the seven major lineages of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) circulating in modern time

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) is an enteric pathogen responsible for the majority of diarrheal cases worldwide. ETEC infections are estimated to cause 80,000 deaths annually, with the highest rates of burden, ca 75 million cases per year ...
