Ethanol Dehydration with ZSM-5

open access: yes, 2016
In the global effort to reduce fossil fuel reliance, green ethylene is being produced through vapor phase catalytic dehydration of bio-ethanol. This project studied the benefits of ethanol dehydration with zeolite ZSM-5 in the liquid phase.

A Novel Decellularized Fibrocartilage Graft Promotes Tympanic Membrane Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
An off‐the‐shelf decellularized porcine meniscus fibrocartilage graft (MEND) is engineered for pediatric tympanoplasty. Featuring a microchannel architecture that promotes host cell invasion, MEND rapidly closes tympanic membrane perforations and fully remodels in vivo, outperforming fascia and matching cartilage grafts while avoiding donor‐site ...

Extraction of nucleic acids from yeast cells and plant tissues using ethanol as medium for sample preservation and cell disruption

open access: yesBioTechniques, 2010
Here we report that dehydrated ethanol is an excellent medium for both in situ preservation of nucleic acids and cell disruption of plant and yeast cells.

Targeting Post‐Irradiation Thyroid Dysfunction: Electrospun Scaffolds As A Dual‐Action Approach for Antioxidant and Immune Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Radiation‐induced hypothyroidism follows head and neck radiotherapy due to oxidative stress and inflammation. Electrospun polycaprolactone scaffolds containing adenosine have potential to modulate thyroid repair. Scaffolds enhance thyrocyte proliferation, antioxidant enzymes glutathione peroxidase and catalase, reduce senescence and apoptosis markers ...

Co‐Electrospinning Extracellular Matrix with Polycaprolactone Enables a Modular Approach to Balance Bioactivity and Mechanics of a Multifunctional Bone Wrap

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The incorporation of nondigested ECM and synthetic polymers into a co‐electrospinning system enables the decoupling of bioactivity and mechanical properties within a single wrap. This technique is used to develop a multifunctional bone wrap that achieves augmented membrane durability, sustained infection control, and enhanced vascularity for use in ...

Coaxially Electrospun Myocardial dECM‐ Based Nanofibrous Scaffolds Demonstrate Enhanced Cardiomyocyte Biocompatibility

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Our coaxial electrospinning system is capable of incorporating decellularized myocardial extracellular matrix in a core‐sheath configuration, creating nanofibrous scaffolds. These scaffolds, in turn, support the maintenance of functional cardiomyocytes adhered to the surface of these bioactive scaffolds.

Evaluation of a Simplified Model of Adsorption used to Separate Ethanol-Water

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2017
With the increasing demand for high quality anhydrous ethanol the production process by adsorption cycle is gaining more space among dehydration conventional processes, since the adsorption process does not leave traces of solvent in the final product ...
