Enhanced Electrocatalytic Activity of Pt-M (M= Co, Fe) Chitosan Supported Catalysts for Ethanol Electrooxidation in Fuel Cells [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Nanostructures, 2017
Here, metal nanoparticles were synthesized by chemical reduction of the corresponding metal salts in the presence of chitosan polymer. Binary and ternary metallic-chitosan Pt-Fe-CH, Pt-Co-CH and Pt-Fe-Co-CH nanocomposites were prepared.

Electro-oxidation of Ethanol on Carbon Supported PtSn and PtSnNi Catalysts

open access: yesBulletin of Chemical Reaction Engineering & Catalysis, 2016
Even though platinum is known as an active electro-catalyst for ethanol oxidation at low temperatures (< 100 oC), choosing the electrode material for ethanol electro-oxidation is a crucial issue.

Ethanol toxicity and oxidative stress [PDF]

open access: yesToxicology Letters, 1992
The mechanisms underlying the toxicity of ethanol have been the subject of much study, but are not well understood. Unlike many selective pharmacological agents, ethanol clearly has several major loci of action. One deleterious factor in ethanol metabolism is the potential for generation of excess amounts of free radicals.

Development of Au Promoted Pd/C Electrocatalysts for Methanol, Ethanol and Isopropanol Oxidation in Alkaline Medium

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2012
This research is aimed to investigate the Pt-free catalysts for alcohol electrooxidation in alkaline media. The results show that Pd is a good electrocatalyst for ethanol and isopropanol oxidation. The E-TEK Pt/C shows a much higher activity for methanol

Stereospecificity of the Oxidation of Ethanol by Catalase

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1974
Abstract (R)-[1-3H1]ethanol and (S)-[1-3H1]ethanol were oxidized to acetaldehyde using bovine hepatic catalase. The acetaldehyde formed from the S but not the (R)-[1-3H1]ethanol contained tritium. Thus the stereospecificity of catalase for alcohol is the same as that of alcohol dehydrogenase.

Cyclic Penta-Twinned Rhodium Nanobranches as Superior Catalysts for Ethanol Electro-oxidation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Developing active and durable electro-catalysts toward ethanol oxidation reaction (EOR) with high selectivity toward the C–C bond cleavage is an important issue for the commercialization of direct ethanol fuel cell.

Electrocatalytic Properties of Au(h k l) Electrodes Towards Oxidation of Ethanol in Alkaline Media

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2014
In alkaline media, the mechanism of the oxidation of ethanol on gold single crystal electrodes was investigated over a range of OH- and ethanol concentrations using cyclic voltammetry.

Electrocatalytic oxidation of methane to ethanol via NiO/Ni interface [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Electrocatalytic conversion of methane (CH4) to valuable chemicals under mild conditions is an attractive approach that combines the direct utilization of natural gas as a hydrocarbon feedstock and the chemical storage of renewable electricity.

Oxidant anti-oxidant imbalance and effects of ethanol [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioscience, 1999
This article discusses some of the mechanisms through which alcohol, delivered pre- or postnatally, alters the activity of the rodent hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. We show that blockade of prostaglandin synthesis, but not opiate receptors, modestly interfered with the HPA axis to acute alcohol injection.
