Anomalous refractivity changes of Gramicidin A in ethanol solutions

Molecular Biology Reports, 1975
Studies of the refractive properties of Gramicidin A in absolute ethanol and in ethanol water mixtures showed that this peptide in solution undergoes a conformational transition resulting in species with different refractivity. Accordingly, the folded form of this peptide shows a lower specific refractive index increment than the unfolded form.

Influence of ethanol on the delivery of intravenous nitroglycerin solutions

European Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, 1989
In order to evaluate the surface tension lowering effect of ethanol in intravenous nitroglycerin solutions of varying concentrations, drop size was measured in intravenous transfusion sets that should deliver 60 drops/ml. Ethanol 5% solutions led to a significant decrease in drop volume and a concomitant increase in the number of drops per unit volume,

The effect of companion on consumption of ethanol solution in cats

The Pavlovian Journal of Biological Science, 1983
Social influences on drinking ethanol solution were studied in two cats ("drinkers") who voluntarily drank small amounts of 10% ethanol solution in milk and three other cats ("nondrinkers") who served as companions to the drinkers. A 15-minute session was conducted daily in a compartment divided into two even parts with a transparent Plexiglass ...

Regular superstructures of purified DNA in ethanolic solutions

Journal of Molecular Biology, 1973
Abstract Aqueous solutions of purified DNA from bacteriophage T7 were subjected to various concentrations of ethanol and visualized by electron microscopy. Compact, linear, unbranched particles with uniform diameters were found which have three distinct lengths, 3.04±0.04 μm, 0.69±0.01 μm and 0.159±0.014μm, with increasing diameters.

Browning in Ethanolic Solutions of Ascorbic Acid and Catechin

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2011
Nonenzymatic browning occurs readily in alcoholic beverages and degrades their color quality. Ascorbic acid degradation in the presence of phenolic compounds is a major browning pathway in alcoholic beverages with fruit or fruit juice as the raw material or an ingredient.

Dynamics of phospholipid aggregation in ethanol-water solutions

Chemistry and Physics of Lipids, 1977
The kinetics of liposome and vesicle formation of a synthetic lecithin has been studied by light scattering techniques. It is shown, that by evaporation of alcohol from a lipid--alcohol--water mixture, the aggregates formed undergo several changes in shape.

Phosphorus-31 studies on lecithin in ethanol solutions

Chemistry and Physics of Lipids, 1975
31P relaxation times of lecithin in ethanol solutions have been measured in dependence on temperature and water concentration. Trial calculations have been carried out on the assumption of a 2-site exchange model. The results suggest first, the relaxation behaviour is determined by various motional and exchange processes; second, at 29 MHz the dipole ...
