An Overview of Saturated Cyclic Ethers: Biological Profiles and Synthetic Strategies

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
Saturated oxygen heterocycles are widely found in a broad array of natural products and other biologically active molecules. In medicinal chemistry, small and medium rings are also important synthetic intermediates since they can undergo ring-opening and

Bio‐Inspired Molecular Events in Poly(Ionic Liquids)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Originating from dipolar and polar inter‐ and intra‐chain interactions of the building blocks, the topologies and morphologies of poly(ionic liquids) (PIL) govern their nano‐ and micro‐processibility. Modulating the interactions of cation‐anion pairs with aliphatic dipolar components enables the tunability of properties, facilitated by “bottom‐up ...

Low Catalyst Loadings in Olefin Metathesis: Synthesis of Nitrogen Heterocycles by Ring-Closing Metathesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A series of ruthenium catalysts have been screened under ring-closing metathesis (RCM) conditions to produce five-, six-, and seven-membered carbamate-protected cyclic amines. Many of these catalysts demonstrated excellent RCM activity and yields with as

Deciphering Small Molecule Diffusion Parameters Across Light Responsive Polymersome Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Light‐responsive polymersomes bearing donor–acceptor Stenhouse adducts (DASAs) enable programmable control over small‐molecule transport across synthetic membranes. By systematically varying DASA density, an optimal functionalization regime is identified that maximizes light‐gated permeability.

The Synthesis of Cyclic Enol Ethers via Molybdenum Alkylidene-Catalyzed Ring-Closing Metathesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
An efficient method for the construction of five- and six-membered cyclic vinyl ethers from unsaturated esters using stoichiometric titanium reagents to convert the esters to acyclic olefinic enol ethers which are then transformed to the desired products

Synthesis, Chemistry and Applications of 5-Hydroxymethyl-furfural And Its Derivatives [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The prospect of exciting research activity in the chemistry of furfural derived compounds such as 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), 2,5-furandicarbaldehyde and 2,5-furan-dicarboxylic acid prompted the writing of this article.

Actuating and Sensing Composites of Liquid Crystal Elastomers and Poly(ionic liquid)s

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ionic conductive, mechanically tough, flexible, and stretchable filaments of a composite material comprising a liquid crystal elastomer and a poly(ionic liquid) are produced through 3D printing, which exhibit large actuation strain under stimulation and electrical resistance variation in response to deformation or environmental condition changes. Their

Thermo‐Mechanically Recyclable Smart Textiles from Circularly Knitted Liquid Crystal Elastomer Fibers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Reprogrammable multi‐material smart textiles knitted from liquid crystal elastomer fibers undergo 2D and 3D deformation under thermal and photo stimuli. Circularly knitted tubular structures reversibly contract in radial and axial directions, enabling autonomous climbing, liquid release, and micro pumping.

Studies of the complexation behavior of tetramorpholinylo-PNP-lariat ether with Ag(I), Ca(II), Cd(II), Cu(II) and Pb(II) using Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In this publication the cationic metal complexes of tetramorpholinylo-PNP-lariat ether have been studied using electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS).

Photo‐Controlled Antibacterial Drug Release From DASA‐Coated Silica Particles for Improved Treatment of Wound Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Synthesis and characterization of light‐responsive donor–acceptor Stenhouse adducts (DASA)‐coated chlorhexidine‐loaded silica nanoparticles. Such a controllable drug‐delivery system enables the release of the antimicrobial drug on demand and in consecutive cycles, thereby maintaining the concentration within the therapeutic window.
