Properties and Autoignition reactivity of diesel boiling range ethers produced from Guerbet alcohols

open access: yesFuel Communications
We examine the properties of diesel boiling range ethers made from coupling of alcohols produced by oligomerization of ethanol (Guerbet alcohols) for their utility as low-carbon liquid fuel blendstocks.

Removal of Steroid Hormone Micropollutants by an Electrochemical Carbon Nanotube Membrane Flow‐Through Reactor: Role of Concentration and Degradation Mechanisms

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A flow‐through electrochemical membrane reactor equipped with a carbon nanotube membrane eliminates the mass transfer limitation, achieving removals >97.5% for steroid hormone (SH) micropollutants through electrochemical adsorption and degradation, over a broad initial concentration varying from 50 to 106 ng L−1.

Metabolism of glycerol ether-containing lipids in dogfish (Squalus acanthias)

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1968
Dogfish (Squalus acanthias) received intrahepatic injections of either palmitic acid-1-14C or chimyl alcohol-1-14C. The lipids of the liver were then analyzed for incorporated radioactivity. The experiments with labeled palmitic acid demonstrated that ...

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers: occurrence, dietary exposure, and toxicology.

open access: yesEnvironmental Health Perspectives, 2001
Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are used as flame retardants in plastics (concentration, 5--30%) and in textile coatings. Commercial products consist predominantly of penta-, octa-, and decabromodiphenyl ether mixtures, and global PBDE production ...

Sensing of Chloride Ions in Sweat by Means of Printed Extended‐Gate Organic Electrochemical Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this work, a platform based on an Extended‐Gate OECT is successfully developed and tailored for the detection of physiologically relevant chloride ion concentrations in artificial eccrine sweat. Leveraging the extended‐gate architecture, a high‐performance OECT based on inkjet‐printed pg2T‐TT is coupled with an inkjet‐printed Ag/AgCl electrode ...

Gold-catalyzed intermolecular coupling of sulfonylacetylene with allyl ethers: [3,3]- and [1,3]-rearrangements

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2013
Gold-catalyzed intermolecular couplings of sulfonylacetylenes with allyl ethers are reported. A cooperative polarization of alkynes both by a gold catalyst and a sulfonyl substituent resulted in an efficient intermolecular tandem carboalkoxylation ...

Differentiating the Synergistic Interactions Between Li+ Salts and Cyclic to Linear Carbonate Ratios to Enable Wide‐Temperature Performance of Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The coordination in carbonate solvents and degradation products of lithium difluoro(oxolato) borate (LiDFOB) salt enables sufficient passivation of both LiNi0.8Mn0.1Co0.1O2 (NMC811) cathode and graphite anode in the absence of ethylene carbonate (EC).

Activation of C–H Bonds via the Merger of Photoredox and Organocatalysis: A Coupling of Benzylic Ethers with Schiff Bases

open access: yesJournal of the American Chemical Society, 2014
The photoredox-mediated coupling of benzylic ethers with Schiff bases has been accomplished. Direct benzylic C–H activation by a combination of a thiol catalyst with an iridium photocatalyst and subsequent radical–radical coupling with secondary ...

Ionic Control of Microstructure and Lubrication in Charged, Physically Cross‐Linked Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Here, charged, physically cross‐linked poly(methacrylamide‐co‐methacrylic acid) hydrogels stabilized by a short‐range attractive, long‐range repulsive potential is investigated. This work uncovers how salt addition alters not only swelling, but also the microstructure and dynamics, near‐surface stiffness and charge, and ultimately, its lubricity. Salts
