Ameliorating the Effects of Trypanosoma Evansi Infection in Wistar Rats Using Selected Nutraceuticals, Ethidium Bromide and Ethidium Chloride

open access: yesUMYU Scientifica Journal
African Trypanosomiasis is a disease that affects humans and animals, caused by trypanosomes in sub-Saharan Africa, despite decades of vector control and treatments. The disease remains endemic and an impediment to socio-economic development.

Applying molecular dynamics simulations to validate OCT1 substrates uncovers vitamin K1 as a high-affinity ligand

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology
OCT1 is a hepatic membrane uptake transporter of clinical importance in drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics. OCT1 exhibits broad substrate specificity, mediating uptake of diverse compounds, including the neurotransmitter serotonin and the antidiabetic ...

A cryptic targeting signal creates a mitochondrial FEN1 isoform with tailed R-Loop binding properties.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
A growing number of DNA transacting proteins is found in the nucleus and in mitochondria, including the DNA repair and replication protein Flap endonuclease 1, FEN1. Here we show a truncated FEN1 isoform is generated by alternative translation initiation,

Intercalation of ethidium bromide into a triple-stranded oligonucleotide

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 1991
We have examined the ability of a cationic planar chromophore, ethidium bromide, to intercalate into a short, defined triple helix. Using UV absorption, fluorescence spectroscopy and a gel retardation assay we demonstrate that ethidium bromide is able to bind to a triple helix with a lower affinity than to the corresponding duplex. Energy transfer from
