Fluorometric Determination of Ethinyl Estradiol in Tablets

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1972
A fluorometric procedure, based on the Liebermann-Burchard reaction, was developed for assaying ethinyl estradiol in tablets. A chloroform extract of ethinyl estradiol is reacted with acetic anhydride and sulfuric acid, and the resulting fluorophor is measured at 400 nm. while exciting at 324 nm. Fluorescence versus concentration is linear up to 10 mcg.
