Much of the material to be covered in this chapter has been discussed in earlier chapters on ETRAN, EGS and the ITS systems. This chapter explicitly compares and contrasts the codes with the intention of providing some new insights into them. It should be noted that, for the purposes of this chapter, the term ETRAN refers to the original NBS version of

Electron-photon Monte Carlo calculations: The ETRAN code
International Journal of Radiation Applications and Instrumentation Part A, Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 1991Abstract This paper briefly describes the Monte Carlo code ETRAN, developed for the solution of coupled electron-photon transport problems. We focus on the multiple-scattering distributions and underlying cross sections that form the basis of current versions of ETRAN, without details on sampling algorithms or numerical procedures.

An Overview of ETRAN Monte Carlo Methods
1988A series of Monte Carlo codes for the calculation of the transport of electrons and photons through extended media has been developed at the National Bureau of Standards over the past 25 years. These codes have been named ETRAN (for Electron TRANsport), with the various versions representing mainly refinements, embellishments and different geometrical ...

No Aid, an Etran, a Minspeak: a comparison of efficiency and effectiveness during structured use
AAC: Augmentative and Alternative Communication, 1985An 18-year-old individual with cerebral palsy has developed strategies of using her three modes of expressive communication. L. M. combines using her Minspeak, Etran, and often no aid to converse with a variety of individuals in her home and community.

Applications of ETRAN Monte Carlo Codes
1988Of the many possible applications of electron-photon Monte Carlo calculations to problems in radiation physics, a significant subset can be carried out in rather simple geometry, such as slabs or cylinders composed of a single, or perhaps a few, materials.

ETRAN—R Extension Package for Eye Tracking Results Analysis
Perception, 2015Novel open source R extension package for general-purpose eye tracking results analysis proposed. Now supported features are data loading from SMI eye trackers, different methods of fixations detection, various imaging techniques for raw data, and detected fixations (time sequence, scanpath, heatmap, and dynamic visualization). The modular structure of

For 1–50 MeV electrons incident on a water phantom there are systematic differences in the depth‐dose curves calculated by the Monte Carlo codes EGS and ETRAN (and its descendants SANDYL, CYLTRAN, ACCEPT, and the ITS system). Compared to ETRAN, the EGS code calculates a higher surface dose and a slightly slower dose falloff past the dose maximum.

Application of EGS and ETRAN to Problems in Medical Physics and Dosimetry
1980In this final lecture dealing with electromagnetic cascades we will look at a few applications of Monte Carlo programs to problems of interest in medical physics and dosimetry. In particular, we will consider two areas: 1) bremsstrahlung production from medical accelerators; 2) photon dosimetry at medium to low energies.

ETRAN — Experimental Benchmarks
1988The ETRAN transport code is the realization of a Monte Carlo scheme for simulating electron histories carried out according to a “condensed random-walk” model. In this model, the sampling of individual elastic and inelastic collisions is replaced by the sampling of multiple-scattering deflections and energy losses in successive short path segments.

Point kernels describe the energy deposited at a certain distance from an isotropic point source and are useful for nuclear medicine dosimetry. They can be used for absorbed-dose calculations for sources of various shapes and are also a useful tool when comparing different Monte Carlo (MC) codes.
