Ferromagnetic forces acting on the EU-DEMO divertor

open access: yesFusion Engineering and Design, 2023
This paper presents an analysis of the mechanical loads produced by the ferromagnetic effects in the divertor of the European DEMO (EU-DEMO) reactor. The exact assessment of this force is an important prerequisite for a reliable structural design, for instance for a correct choice of the fixing supports.

Optimization-oriented modelling of neutral beam injection for EU pulsed DEMO

open access: yes, 2021
Neutral beam injection (NBI) is one of the auxiliary power systems considered for the EU DEMO pulsed plasma ('DEMO1'). In this paper, we discuss the characteristics of optimized NBI in terms of the DEMO1 requirements, relating physics and engineering ...

Radiative heat load distribution on the EU-DEMO first wall due to mitigated disruptions

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2020
The EU-DEMO First Wall (FW) will be a relatively thin structure. In order not to damage this layer, heat loads distributed onto the wall should be carefully controlled.

Parametric scaling of power exhaust in EU-DEMO alternative divertor simulations

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2023
Investigations of parametric scaling of power exhaust in the alternative divertor configuration (ADC) SOLPS-ITER simulation database of the EU-DEMO are conducted and compared to predictions based on the Lengyel model.

Operational Tritium Inventories in the EU-DEMO Fuel Cycle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
The European Demonstration Fusion Power Reactor (EU-DEMO) has to operate in a completely tritium self-sufficient mode after initial start-up, which includes producing excess tritium to allow the start-up of other reactors.

Activities in Divertor Reflector and Linear Plates Using WCLL and HCPB Breeding Blanket Concepts

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
In fusion devices, such as European Demonstration Fusion Power Reactor (EU DEMO), primary neutrons can cause material activation due to the interaction between the source particles and the targeting material.
