The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Accounting integration issues of EU member states [PDF]

open access: yesEquilibrium, 2015
The aim of this article is to discuss the dilemmas over the integration of accounting in EU member states. The dilemma could be divided into the following main groups. Dilemma of the user of financial statements. This dilemma consists in determining for whom the integration of accounting in EU is crucial, and who is the intended beneficiary of ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

COMPARATIVE ANALYSE OF VAT SYSTEMS IN THE NEW EU MEMBER STATES [PDF]

open access: yesChallenges of the Knowledge Society, 2022
The common system of value added tax plays an important role in the European single market, with VAT being a major source of revenue for Member States as well as for the EU budget.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

The Adoption of the Euro in the New EU Member States: Repercussions of the Financial Crisis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The new EU Member States are under the legal obligation to introduce the euro as soon as they meet the convergence/Maastricht criteria. However, their status as “Member States with a derogation” (Art. 122 TEC) gives them some leeway in setting the target

Education of EU migrant children in EU Member States [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This policy brief examines intra-EU mobility with a focus on EU migrant children in education. It examines some of the literature and data on the topic to identify key differences between both groups. Next, it outlines some policies and practices aimed at improving educational outcomes and progression of migrants.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

EU liability for contributions to Member States’ breaches of EU law

open access: yesCommon Market Law Review, 2019
This article analyses the circumstances under which the EU incurs liability for contributing to breaches of EU law committed by Member States. It proposes to distinguish between what will be called primary liability, i.e. the liability that directly arises from the violation committed by the Member State, and associated liability, i.e.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.
