Quantifying the Binding of Fluorescently Labeled Guanine Nucleotides and Initiator tRNA to Eukaryotic Translation Initiation Factor 2

2022
The translation initiation factor eIF2 is critical for protein synthesis initiation, and its regulation is central to the integrated stress response (ISR). eIF2 is a G protein, and the activity is regulated by its GDP or GTP-binding status, such that only GTP-bound eIF2 has high affinity for initiator methionyl tRNA.

Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 α phosphorylation as a therapeutic target in diabetes

Expert Review of Endocrinology & Metabolism, 2014
Regulation of mRNA translation is of vital importance for a cell to adapt to environmental changes. To serve this purpose, intricate mechanisms controlling mRNA translation have evolved, of which the eukaryotic initiation factors eIF2 and eIF4 represent essential regulatory nodes for both stress sensing and signal transduction. Stress sensing by eIF2 α

tRNA Binding Properties of Eukaryotic Translation Initiation Factor 2 from Encephalitozoon cuniculi

Biochemistry, 2010
A critical consequence of the initiation of translation is the setting of the reading frame for mRNA decoding. In eukaryotic and archaeal cells, heterotrimeric initiation factor e/aIF2, in its GTP form, specifically binds Met-tRNA(i)(Met) throughout the translation initiation process.

The Role of Phosphorylation in the Regulation of Eukaryotic Initiation Factor 2 Activity

1982
Publisher Summary The regulation of protein synthesis by changes in the rate of translational initiation is a rapid, short-term mechanism for modifying gene expression in animal cells. Prominent examples include viral inhibition of host protein synthesis, the expression of latent mRNA during embryonic development, the coordination of ribosome and ...

Non-Ideal Size Exclusion Chromatography of Eukaryotic Protein Synthesis Initiation Factor 2

Journal of Liquid Chromatography & Related Technologies, 1997
Abstract Eukaryotic protein synthesis initiation factor 2 (eIF-2), a heterotrimer, was chromatographed on high performance (Superose 6) and standard (Ultrogel AcA 34 and Sephacryl S-300) size exclusion chromatography (SEC) media. The retention volume of eIF-2 on the Superose 6 column was higher than expected from its Mr and elution of a βγ eIF-2 dimer ...
