General Variational Formulation of Axisymmetric Capillary Bridges: Modeling Contact Angle Hysteresis and Capillary Forces

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, Volume 50, Issue 12, Page 4879-4892, 25 August 2026.
ABSTRACT This work presents a general framework for deriving the Young–Laplace equation and the Young's equations for an axisymmetric capillary bridge between two parallel plates by minimizing the system's total energy. These Young's equations naturally emerge as boundary conditions associated with the Young–Laplace equation.

Adaptive Sliding Mode Control Design for Interval Type‐2 T–S Fuzzy Systems With Time Delay: An Event‐Triggered Approach

open access: yesInternational Journal of Robust and Nonlinear Control, Volume 36, Issue 12, Page 6047-6067, August 2026.
ABSTRACT In this work, a new event‐triggered adaptive first‐order sliding mode control method is proposed for nonlinear systems with constant time delays, modeled by interval type‐2 Takagi–Sugeno (T–S) fuzzy systems. To handle matched disturbances with unknown upper bounds, a non‐overestimating adaptation strategy for the control coefficient is ...

Modeling and Control of 2D Grasping under Rolling Contact Constraints between Arbitrary Shapes: A Riemannian-Geometry Approach

open access: yesJournal of Robotics, 2010
Modeling, control, and stabilization of dynamics of two-dimensional object grasping by using a pair of multijoint robot fingers are investigated under rolling contact constraints and arbitrariness of the geometry of the object and fingertips.

A Semi‐Resolved VOF‐DEM Coupling Method for Bedload Transport of Non‐Spherical Particles

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Bedload transport of coarse sediments involves complex particle‐flow interactions that govern sediment motion and bed surface evolution. In this study, a semi‐resolved CFD‐DEM method is developed to simulate bedload sediment dynamics, in which the background fluid information for each particle is calculated using a Gaussian kernel function ...

Cluster scattering diagrams via quiver moduli and tight gradings

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 114, Issue 2, August 2026.
Abstract We study rank‐2 cluster scattering diagrams through moduli spaces of quiver representations and a recently developed combinatorial framework of tight gradings. Combining quiver‐theoretic and combinatorial methods, we prove and extend a collection of conjectures posed by Elgin–Reading–Stella concerning the structural and enumerative properties ...

Weak Solutions for a Class of Nonlocal Singular Problems Over the Nehari Manifold

open access: yesMathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, Volume 49, Issue 11, Page 12360-12378, 30 July 2026.
ABSTRACT In this paper, we consider a nonlocal model of dilatant non‐Newtonian fluid with a Dirichlet boundary condition. By using the Nehari manifold and fibering map methods, we obtain the existence of at least two weak solutions, with sign information.

Advancing Aquifer Characterization Through the Integration of Satellite Geodesy, Geomechanics, and Bayesian Inference

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 14, 28 July 2026.
Abstract Unsustainable rates of groundwater (GW) depletion make GW management a priority. Effective GW management is hindered by the uncertainty in the predictions of aquifer models, but the increase of geodetic surface deformation data can improve aquifer characterization.

Nonholonomic systems as restricted Euler-Lagrange systems

open access: yes, 2010
We recall the notion of a nonholonomic system by means of an example of classical mechanics, namely the vertical rolling disk. For a general mechanical system with nonholonomic constraints, we present a Lagrangian formulation of the nonholonomic and vakonomic dynamics using the method of anholonomic frames.

Minimizing a class of polyconvex functionals involving Caputo derivatives

open access: yesBoundary Value Problems
In this article, we establish the existence of multiple, infinitely many, nontrivial solutions to a class of nonlinear fractional elliptic systems in fractional variational form subject to pointwise gradient constraint and pure Dirichlet-type boundary ...
