Copper‐Zinc Bimetallic Two‐Dimensional Conjugated Coordination Polymers for Highly‐Selective Electrochemical CO2 Reduction to Ethanol

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Two‐dimensional conjugated coordination polymers featuring spatially separated Cu/Zn–S4 bi‐active sites enable the selective electrochemical conversion of CO2 to ethanol via stabilized C2 intermediates, achieving a Faradaic efficiency of 92.3% at a current density exceeding 120 mA cm−2 and an energy cost of 56.6 GJ per ton.

Study of the effects of thermal regime and alternative hormonal treatments on the reproductive performance of European eel males (Anguilla anguilla) during induced sexual maturation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
[EN] Since 1960, the European eel (Anguilla anguilla) has suffered a dramatic reduction in natural stocks. Breeding in captivity is considered an alternative, but obtaining high quality sperm seems basic on this regard.

Biological invasions disrupt the relationship between size spectrum and trophic interactions in freshwater fish communities

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Our study shows that non‐native species alter the relationship between the size‐spectrum slope and the predator–prey mass ratio (PPMR) in freshwater fish communities by occupying distinct trophic niches. Abstract The size spectrum, which describes the relationship between abundance (or biomass) and body size, is an ataxic approach that can provide ...

The Early Upper Palaeolithic in British caves: problems and potential Le Paléolithique supérieur ancien dans les grottes de Grande‐Bretagne : problèmes et potentiels

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Anthropological Institute, EarlyView.
Recent years have seen landmark progress in our understanding of early Homo sapiens occupation of Europe, owing to new excavations and the application of new analytical methods. Research on British sites, however, continues to lag. This is because of limitations inherent in existing cave collections, and limited options for new fieldwork at known sites.

Testing cryopreserved European eel sperm for hybridization (A. japonica × A. anguilla) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
[EN] The objective of this study was to assess impact of cryopreserved European eel sperm and Japanese eel native sperm on early fertilization, hatch, survival, and malformation rates of larvae, as well as develop molecular techniques to distinguish ...

Management of the European Eel

open access: yes, 1997
Concern expressed by fishermen, fish culturists and scientists alike on the decline in recruitment and fishery yields of the eel led to the establishment of a working group, EC Concerted Action AIR A94-1939, to pursue a project entitled Enhancement of the European eel fishery and conservation of the species.

Genome Expansion of ZPB1(a) and ZPC1(a) in Basal Species or Liver Expression of ZPB1a and ZPC1aa in Advanced Species, Two Different Strategies to Ensure Sufficient ZP Synthesis in Teleosts

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
We found that teleosts employed two different strategies to ensure sufficient ZP (zona pellucida) synthesis: expansion of ZPB1(a) and ZPC1(a) in basal species or liver expression of ZPB1a and ZPC1aa in advanced species. The N‐terminus of expanded ZPB1(a) or ZPC1(a) and liver‐expressed ZPB1a contains repeated units or low‐complexity regions to form ...

Escapement of a silver-phase eel population, Anguilla anguilla, determined from fishery in a Mediterranean lagoon (Or, France) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Escapement of silver eels from a Mediterranean lagoon was estimated by a capture–tagging–recapture and automated tag-reading study. The population of silver-phase eels in the lagoon was estimated to be 13.2 kg ha21, with an escapement rate from the ...
