Comparative Study of Spermatogenesis and Nucleolar Behavior in Testicular Lobes of Euschistus heros (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae)

open access: yesPsyche: A Journal of Entomology, 2010
In some testicular lobes of the Pentatomidae there may be occurrence of atypical spermatogenesis or polymegaly, leading to the production of nonfertile sperm.

Mode of Action and Specificity of Bacillus thuringiensis Toxins in the Control of Caterpillars and Stink Bugs in Soybean Culture

open access: yesInternational Scholarly Research Notices, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
The bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) produces delta‐endotoxins that possess toxic properties and can be used as biopesticides, as well as a source of genes for the construction of transgenic plants resistant to insects. In Brazil, the introduction of Bt soybean with insecticidal properties to the velvetbean caterpillar, the main insect pest of ...

Population dynamic of Euschistus heros in transgenic soybean crops of different development cycles

open access: yesAgrarian, 2020
The neotropical brown stink bug Euschistus heros is one of the major pest of soybean crops; therefore, it is important to carry out periodic samples to assess the population density and help in decision- making control.

Natural Incidence of Egg Parasitoids of Edessa meditabunda (F.) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) on Crotalaria spectabilis in Campo Novo do Parecis, MT, Brazil [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Egg parasitoids of the stink bug Edessa meditabunda (F) were studied on rattlepod Crotalaria spectabilis used in soybean crop rotation in Campo Novo do Parecis, Mato Grosso state, central western Brazil.

Impact of Insecticide Seed Treatments on population dynamics of Euschistus heros (Fabr.) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae)

open access: yesEmirates Journal of Food and Agriculture, 2021
This study evaluated the effect of insecticides used in the treatment of soybean [(Glycine max (L.) Merrill)] seeds on the population dynamics of Euschistus heros (Fabr.) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), popularly known as the Neotropical brown stink bug. The experiment was conducted on 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 soybean crops in the experimental area of the ...

Host‐Symbiont Interactions for Potentially Managing Heteropteran Pests

open access: yesPsyche: A Journal of Entomology, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
Insects in the suborder Heteroptera, the so‐called true bugs, include over 40,000 species worldwide. This insect group includes many important agricultural pests and disease vectors, which often have bacterial symbionts associated with them. Some symbionts have coevolved with their hosts to the extent that host fitness is compromised with the removal ...

Spectral Characterization of the Life Stages and Physiological Responses of Diatraea saccharalis Fabricius (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) Larvae Parasitized by Cotesia flavipes Cameron (Hymenoptera: Braconidae)

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
Hyperspectral proximal sensing was used to characterize the life stages and physiological responses of Diatraea saccharalis and to detect parasitism by Cotesia flavipes. Distinct spectral signatures differentiated eggs, larval instars, pupae, and adults, as well as live, dead, and parasitized larvae.

Case Study: Trap Crop with Pheromone Traps for Suppressing Euschistus servus (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) in Cotton

open access: yesPsyche: A Journal of Entomology, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
The brown stink bug, Euschistus servus (Say), can disperse from source habitats, including corn, Zea mays L., and peanut, Arachis hypogaea L., into cotton, Gossypium hirsutum L. Therefore, a 2‐year on‐farm experiment was conducted to determine the effectiveness of a sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench spp.

Daily Rhythms of Sex Pheromone Emission and Courtship Behaviour in the Neotropical Brown Stink Bug Euschistus heros

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Understanding the chemical and behavioural ecology of the Neotropical brown stink bug, Euschistus heros (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), is essential for developing effective integrated pest management (IPM) strategies in South American soybean production. This study investigated the courtship behaviour and diel periodicity of sex pheromone emission.

Reproductive Biology, Mating Behavior, and Vibratory Communication of the Brown‐Winged Stink Bug, Edessa meditabunda (Fabr.) (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae)

open access: yesPsyche: A Journal of Entomology, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
We describe different aspects of the reproductive biology, mating behavior, and vibratory communication of the pentatomid Edessa meditabunda (Fabr.). This species shows lower copulation frequency and reproductive potential with longer sexual maturation period compared to other species of pentatomids.
