Little Tuna Euthynnus affinis in the Hong Kong area

open access: yesNIPPON SUISAN GAKKAISHI, 1970
This is the first description of the biology of Euthynnus affinis in the Hong Kong area and is based on examination of samples of fish and on other data collected during 1967-69. A population of E. affinis inhabits the south coast of Kwangtung, China where it is the commonest tuna species.

Design and Validation of an Open–Close Device for Integrated Environmental DNA Sampling Detects A Depth Gradient in Indian Ocean Deep‐Sea Fish Assemblages

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 2, February 2025.
The goal of this study was to leverage existing survey technology to design and test an eDNA sampler that captures an integrated eDNA sample over the length of a deep‐water transect. We provide a biological interpretation of the resulting data, demonstrating the usefulness of such technology to understand the ocean environments, using fish species as ...

Mass Die‐Off Events in Swarming Hyperiid Amphipods: Potential Drivers

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 2, February 2025.
We investigated mass mortality events of hyperiid amphipods, Anchylomera blossevillei, in the Red Sea during 2023 and 2024. Morphological and molecular analyses ruled out semelparity and thermal stress as causes, with evidence pointing to cyclonic eddies as a potential driver. A global review of hyperiid mass mortality events provided a broader context

Natural and Artificial Structures Influence the Movement and Habitat Connectivity of Whale Sharks (Rhincodon typus) Across Seascapes

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 31, Issue 1, January 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim To understand how natural geomorphological features and oil and gas platforms (OG platforms) influence the habitat use and seascape connectivity of the whale shark (Rhincodon typus). Location East‐Indian Ocean and North‐West Australia. Methods We compiled a satellite tracking dataset of 78 whale sharks tagged across a 14‐year period at ...
