Evil, Freedom and Heaven [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
By far the most respected response by theists to the problem of evil is some version of the free will defense, which rests on the twin ideas that God could not create humans with free will without them committing evil acts, and that freedom is of such ...

The Evil Demon Inside [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
This paper examines how new evil demon problems could arise for our access to the internal world of our own minds. I start by arguing that the internalist/externalist debate in epistemology has been widely misconstrued---we need to reconfigure the ...

Mechanical Overloading‐Induced Nanomineral Crystal Perturbation from the Osteochondral Interface: A Potential Initiator of Osteoarthritis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Laser‐induced graphene (LIG) provides a scalable, laser‐direct‐written route to porous graphene architecture with tunable chemistry and defect density. Through heterojunction engineering, catalytic functionalization, and intrinsic self‐heating, LIG achieves highly sensitive and selective detection of NOX, NH3, H2, and humidity, supporting next ...

Neither Enemy Nor Friend: Nature as Creation in the Theology of Saint Thomas Aquinas

open access: yesZygon, 1997
This paper traces three paradigmatic responses to the presence of evil in nature. Thomas Henry Huxley depicts nature as the enemy of humanity that morality combats “at every step.” Henry Drummond views nature as benevolent, a friend of humanity, and the

4‐Hydroxybenzyl Alcohol Mitigates Hyperlipidemia‐Associated Depression by Inhibiting Neuroinflammation via the NKIRAS2/NF‐κB Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
4‐HBA upregulates NKIRAS2 levels, inhibiting the activation of the NF‐κB pathway and subsequently reducing the levels of neuroinflammatory markers. This modulation helps restore normal mood and behavior in hyperlipidemic conditions, providing a potential therapeutic strategy for managing hyperlipidemia‐associated depression.

ANIMAL SUFFERING, EVOLUTION, AND THE ORIGINS OF EVIL: TOWARD A “FREE CREATURES” DEFENSE

open access: yesZygon, 2014
Does an affirmation of theistic evolution make the task of theodicy impossible? In this article, I will review a number of ancient and contemporary responses to the problem of evil as it concerns animal suffering and suggest a possible way forward which

A Dual‐Responsive Versatile Nanohybrid Orchestrating Tumor Elimination and Tumor‐Associated Osteolysis Restoration via Sequential Release

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The versatile CaO2@CuMOF@HAP nanohybrid demonstrates an outstanding MMP9/pH‐triggered release performance for sequential release of osteogenic growth peptide into deep‐seated tumor‐infiltrated bone destruction areas and dual ions into tumor cells, enabling efficient tumor‐associated osteolysis restoration and tumor elimination for more comprehensive ...

The Moral Argument, Existential Problems of Evil, and a Non-Existential Alternative [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Within this paper, it is shown that certain ethical assumptions are implicit within the claim that certain kinds of evil exist. When taken in tandem with the moral argument for the existence of God, these assumptions can be arranged in such a way as to ...

Liver Stiffness Rises Early in MASLD and Drives Inflammation, Lipid Dysmetabolism, and Fibrosis via Piezo1–YAP Mechanotransduction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Progressive stiffening of the hepatic extracellular matrix and free fatty acid overload activate the mechanosensor Piezo1 in steatotic hepatocytes, inducing calcium influx and nuclear translocation of Yes‐associated protein. YAP‐dependent nuclear signaling further drives inflammatory and fibrotic gene programs, lipid metabolic reprogramming, and ...
