MET and NF2 alterations confer primary and early resistance to first‐line alectinib treatment in ALK‐positive non‐small‐cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Alectinib resistance in ALK+ NSCLC depends on treatment sequence and EML4‐ALK variants. Variant 1 exhibited off‐target resistance after first‐line treatment, while variant 3 and later lines favored on‐target mutations. Early resistance involved off‐target alterations, like MET and NF2, while on‐target mutations emerged with prolonged therapy.

Extensive intragenomic variation in the internal transcribed spacer region of fungi

open access: yesiScience, 2023
Summary: Fungi are among the most biodiverse organisms in the world. Accurate species identification is imperative for studies on fungal ecology and evolution.

MIF as an oncogenic driver of low‐heterogeneity melanomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Shvefel and colleagues identified tumor‐secreted macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) as an upregulated cytokine that mediates immune resistance in melanomas with low‐intratumoral heterogeneity. MIF and its functional paralogue D‐dopachrome tautomerase (D‐DT or MIF‐2) have overlapping but nonidentical signaling functions and are hypothesized to

Single-cell phenotypic plasticity modulates social behavior in Dictyostelium discoideum

open access: yesiScience, 2023
Summary: In Dictyostelium chimeras, “cheaters” are strains that positively bias their contribution to the pool of spores, i.e., the reproductive cells resulting from development.

Tonic signaling of the B‐cell antigen‐specific receptor is a common functional hallmark in chronic lymphocytic leukemia cell phosphoproteomes at early disease stages

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
B‐cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B‐CLL) and monoclonal B‐cell lymphocytosis (MBL) show altered proteomes and phosphoproteomes, analyzed using mass spectrometry, protein microarrays, and western blotting. Identifying 2970 proteins and 316 phosphoproteins, including 55 novel phosphopeptides, we reveal BCR and NF‐kβ/STAT3 signaling in disease ...

A family of crown-of-thorns starfish spine-secreted proteins modify adult conspecific behavior

open access: yesiScience
Summary: With growing interest in utilizing semiochemicals to control pest species, recent investigations have begun to consider semiochemicals to control outbreaks of crown-of-thorns starfish (CoTS; Acanthaster cf.

Complex host/symbiont integration of a multi-partner symbiotic system in the eusocial aphid Ceratovacuna japonica

open access: yesiScience, 2022
Summary: Some hemipteran insects rely on multiple endosymbionts for essential nutrients. However, the evolution of multi-partner symbiotic systems is not well-established.
