Efficient Computation of Fitness Function for Evolutionary Clustering
Evolutionary algorithms (EAs) are random search heuristics which can solve various optimization problems. There are plenty of papers describing different approaches developed to apply evolutionary algorithms to the clustering problem, although none of ...

Tuberculosis remains a global health challenge and new therapeutic targets are required. Here, we characterized SseA, a sulfurtransferase from Mycobacterium tuberculosis involved in macrophage infection, and its interaction with the newly identified protein SufEMtb that activates SseA enzymatic activity.

The Evolution of Evolutionary Computation [PDF]
Evolutionary computation has enjoyed a tremendous growth for at least a decade in both its theoretical foundations and industrial applications. Its scope has gone far beyond binary string optimisation using a simple genetic algorithm. Many research topics in evolutionary computation nowadays are not necessarily ”genetic” or ”evolutionary” in any ...

Functional role and folding properties of the glucan‐binding domain of oral bacterial glucansucrase
The role of the glucan‐binding domain in Streptococcus sobrinus glucansucrase was examined, focusing on its impact on enzymatic activity, dextran binding, and structural stability of deletion mutants and a circularly permuted protein. Our research revealed that glucosyl transfer efficiency is linked to cooperative interdomain folding.

On the complexity of computing evolutionary trees [PDF]
In this paper we study a few important tree optimization problems with applications to computational biology. These problems ask for trees that are consistent with an as large part, of the given data as possible. We show that the maximum homeomorphic agreement subtree problem cannot be approximated within a factor of Ne, where N is the input size, for ...

Microbial exopolysaccharide production by polyextremophiles in the adaptation to multiple extremes
Polyextremophiles are microorganisms that endure multiple extreme conditions by various adaptation strategies that also include the production of exopolysaccharides (EPSs). This review provides an integrated perspective on EPS biosynthesis, function, and regulation in these organisms, emphasizing their critical role in survival and highlighting their ...

Ecological theory provides insights about evolutionary computation
Promoting diversity in an evolving population is important for Evolutionary Computation (EC) because it reduces premature convergence on suboptimal fitness peaks while still encouraging both exploration and exploitation [3].

Combining melting curve analysis enhances the multiplexing capability of digital PCR. Here, we developed a 14‐plex assay to simultaneously measure single nucleotide mutations and amplifications of KRAS and GNAS, which are common driver genes in pancreatic cancer precursors. This assay accurately quantified variant allele frequencies in clinical samples

Summary In this contribution, we propose a detailed study of interpolation‐based data‐driven methods that are of relevance in the model reduction and also in the systems and control communities. The data are given by samples of the transfer function of the underlying (unknown) model, that is, we analyze frequency‐response data.

Interactive Evolutionary Computation for Analyzing Human Awareness Mechanisms
We discuss the importance of establishing awareness science and show the idea of using interactive evolutionary computation (IEC) as a tool for analyzing awareness mechanism and making awareness models.
