eVTOL Rotor Noise in Ground Effect

Proceedings of the Vertical Flight Society 77th Annual Forum, 2021
This study examines a hovering three-bladed two-rotor system in close operation to the ground. The rotor pair is oppositely phased and is examined for two heights, H/D = 1 and H/D = 0.5. Loads for these rotors are generated using the CFD solver AcuSolve, as well as the Rensselaer Multicopter Analysis Code (RMAC).

Airports and the rise of eVTOL

Journal of Airport Management, 2022
A new form of aircraft — electric Vertical Take-off and Landing (eVTOL) — holds the potential to upend the transportation industry. Some eVTOLs are crosses between a helicopter and a traditional aeroplane, combining the vertical take-off of helicopters with the horizontal flight of aeroplanes. Others take on a more drone-like appearance.

Tiltwing eVTOL Transition Trajectory Optimization

Journal of Aircraft
This paper studies transition trajectory optimization for a tiltwing electrical vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft configuration and evaluates the benefits of equipping it with fluid injection active flow control (AFC). Using a three-degree-of-freedom model of the aircraft’s longitudinal dynamics, both hover-to-cruise (forward) and cruise ...

Fuel Cell Application for Small eVTOL UAVs

Proceedings of the Vertical Flight Society 76th Annual Forum, 2020
This paper analyses the possibility of using hydrogen fuel cells as main energy provider for small to medium-sized eVTOL UAVs. A simplified model for eVTOL UAVs, which covers all relevant areas of aircraft design, including aerodynamics, structural mechanics, propulsion and systems modelling, is presented.
