Giant osmotic pressure in the forced wetting of hydrophobic nanopores [PDF]
The forced intrusion of water in hydrophobic nanoporous pulverulent material is of interest for quick storage of energy. With nanometric pores the energy storage capacity is controlled by interfacial phenomena.

SmallTalk: a novel small‐sized fusion tag for peptide expression and purification
The SmallTalk fusion tag allows for the efficient expression and purification of soluble recombinant proteins or peptides in Escherichia coli. Testing with SmallTalk‐GFP confirmed that the proteins were soluble and folded correctly, while SmallTalk‐Bin1b maintained its antimicrobial activity against various bacterial isolates. This streamlined workflow

Comparison Study on the Residual Excess Pore Water Pressure Observed in seabed [PDF]
The interaction among wave, seabed and marine structure is an important issue in coastal engineering as well as geotechnical engineering. Understanding variations of stresses and pore water pressures generated in seabed induced by waves is important for civil engineers who have to design the foundation for various marine structures and verify the ...

A Laboratory Investigation on Thermal Properties of the Opalinus Claystone [PDF]
Some aspects of the thermal behavior of the Opalinus claystone are investigated through laboratory tests conducted on a new hollow cylinder triaxial apparatus specially designed for studying the thermo-hydro-mechanical behavior of very low permeable ...

Objective Foot orthoses are thought to improve pain by potentially modifying internal mechanical forces. To test this, we explored whether foot orthoses can modify patterns of bone marrow lesions (BMLs) in people with midfoot pain. Methods Forty‐two people were recruited with midfoot pain, and magnetic resonance imaging–confirmed midfoot BMLs ...

Stochastic Investigation of Consolidation Process in Spatially Correlated Heterogeneous Soils
Soil consolidation as the dissipation of excess pore water pressure is mainly affected by the relative hydraulic conductivity among the layers. Geostatistical parameters such as the mean, the standard deviation, and the correlation length are physical ...

Prediction of Excess Pore Water Pressure during Undrained Heating of Clays
This paper focuses on the prediction of thermally-induced excess pore water pressure generation in saturated clays during undrained heating. This study involves an analysis of experimental data presented in the literature for normally consolidated clays with different mineralogical compositions.

The effect of temperature controllers that are commonly used in freeze‐casting is investigated in this work. Temperature controllers are observed to generate a voltage in the slurry. Microstructural alignment and ultimate compressive strength data show this voltage to interfere with the ability to align the microstructure using magnetic fields ...
