A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

Understanding the microscopic moisture migration in pore space using DEM simulation
The deformation of soil skeleton and migration of pore fluid are the major factors relevant to the triggering of and damages by liquefaction. The influence of pore fluid migration during earthquake has been demonstrated from recent model experiments and ...

Recurrent Hypothermia and Autonomic Dysfunction Secondary to Shapiro Syndrome
ABSTRACT A 44‐year‐old man presented with recurrent hypothermia, diaphoresis and hypertension. Extensive investigation for infectious, inflammatory, metabolic and endocrine aetiologies was negative. MR scan of the brain demonstrated no lesions but revealed callosal dysgenesis, consistent with Shapiro syndrome.

A 57‐Year‐Old Male With Behavioral Variant Frontotemporal Dementia and MATR3 and NOS3 Mutations
ABSTRACT This report presents a case of behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia caused by mutations in the MATR3 and NOS3 genes, aiming to analyze its clinical manifestations and genetic characteristics. For a case presenting with personality changes and gait abnormalities as the initial symptoms, this study conducted a comprehensive analysis of its

Objective To explore whether higher body fat and lower lean mass are associated with greater pain and worse patient‐reported physical function in individuals with hip osteoarthritis (OA). A secondary aim was to examine whether pain and patient‐reported physical function differ according to four body composition profiles: high body fat, low lean mass ...

Field tests on response of excess pore water pressures of liquefaction resistant rigid-drainage pile
The liquefaction resistant rigid-drainage pile is a new type of pile which can be used in geotechnical earthquake engineering. The pile combines the bearing capacity of rigid pile and the drain-ability of gravel pile.

Degree of consolidation - peaked initial excess pore water pressure distributions
The solution to Terzaghi's one-dimensional consolidation equation can be freely found in literature for two different cases of initial excess pore water pressure varying with depth; linear or uniform.

The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.
